Sleeping....??
Posted: 08-16-06 16:04pm

I have this book called "pregnancy week by week" and it says by week 15 do not sleep on your back because it could cut off blood supply and all that stuff.

Does anyone sleep on their back even though they are past 15 weeks? I even read that sleeping on your belly is bad. I have a bump but im still comfortable sleeping on it. I hate sleeping on my sides!! Is all this true?? I cant rest!!

I'm 29 weeks and I sleep on my back all the time and my baby is fine. I also sleep on my side/stomach with a pillow supporting my stomach. I was told to sleep however is comfortable for me and since I have a hard enough time sleeping what with the weird dreams, being uncomfortable and getting up to pee 6 times a night I just sleep however I can.

i had that same book and I loved it. That is true, when you are on your back it is harder for the blood supply to reach the baby. I couldnt sleep on my back anyway it hurt too bad.
I never slept on my stomach when I was prego because I felt like would squish the baby.....I usually slept on my side like the books recommend.

..My friend from school was pregnant when I was..And she use to come to school and give me all this info that she got from numerous family members and they were always those old grandmother myths...And it would scare the shi* out of me because I always thought in the back of my mind hrrmmm are those really true...

So one day she told me never to lay on my back for longer than 5 minutes because it would cut blood supply off and kill my baby...So I really freaked out with this one and called my doctor..She told me it was fine to lay/sleep on your back..She also made this comment ...

Why would we doctors make a pregnant women lay on her back if it were indeed harming the baby?

I just thought sheww thank god because that was the only comfortable way I could sleep when I was pregnant!

Yeah, I have that book too. I don't lay on my back only b/c it hurts to, not b/c I think it's going to hurt baby brianne. I'm 25 weeks and I lay on my side(tilted toards my belly). This is the the most comfortable for me and my doctor said it was fine :)

I've always slept on my sides anyway but i'm really uncomfortable on my back or stomach. They are just worried that your uterus can hinder blood supply when it's pressing on the great vessels in your abdomen. It could give you orthostatic hypotension (you'll get dizzy if you change positions fast). But I know plenty of ppl who slept on their back so, I wouldn't worry too much!

There are alot of things people dont do during pregnancy because they are told they arent good ..And all the bull crap..I know I did..I stressed out about things people told me alot ..And I would always call my doc to make sure it was right and more than most of the info people gave me was false ..

I fell when I was 32 weeks pregnant ..Down brick steps and landed flat on my stomach even scratched the skin and bled from the fall and I cried and screamed and freaked out ...Everyone was like omg he is probably dead or is hurting..So I went to the doc for emergency call and guess what everything was perfectly normal..The doc said there is so much protecting the baby that it takes way more than you think to harm it..So that taught me not to be so uptight with what everyone says ..Only listen to what your doc says not what your friends and family say because they didnt go to school and learn the things that go with being a doc...(unless they are a doc :)..)
