suffering a really bad dose of what is
said to be tmj ( ears 'hurt' like they
have been scalded etc, face ache etc etc
and ohhhhhhh the headaches I cant shift
em).
Doctor has prescribed amitriptyline
hydrochloride 10mg per day for it, anyone
know about such a drug ?? Was told it was
initially prescribed for depression but is
now used for such things as tmj. ( is
also having root canal trouble at the
moment.......... Am going to reluctantly
have the tooth out ... Had enough after
12 months or more with it.

Hi jewel,
this drug is usually called elavil here.
I have heard of it being used for tmj and
most of the comments were positive I
believe. I myself take prozac and am
glad that I do.
I'm so sorry to hear that you are having
problems with a root canal. I just had
one about two months ago and it went well,
thank god. I was on a muscle relaxant
and nitrous gas while they worked on me as
it was a molar and my mouth had to open
up. It was the most relaxed appointment
i've ever had. When they do any work on
you, don't let them force your mouth open
too far and give you lots of breaks. If
you end up having to remove the tooth, are
they going to put some sort of spacer or
something there to keep the other teeth
from shifting?
I hope everything works out well for you.
Gotta go.
God bless...
Carol

Hiya carol
yeah its even harder wen u have to rely on
the government dental service , went to a
private dentist yesterday that initially
diagnosed root canal, he reckons its a mix
of sinus/tmj not likely to be tmj ( the
cause of the headaches im talkin bout).
Would like the opinion of a private
endodontist but just cant afford it. The
amiltryptiline the doc reckons will give
me a hangover for a few days eeeeeek.
The private dentist refuses to remove the
tooth he reckons he'd hate to do it n find
it hasnt fixed the problem as its an
important tooth ( front right side).
Sighhhhhhhh I really dont know wat to do
or where to go next. I have doubts bout
the govt so called specialist ( cos I
kicked up a stink to get to see him) oh
well. Back to the codeine n ibuprofen

Hiya,
had 2 treatments for root canal ( no
anaesthetic, didnt feel anything except
panic lol ). It seems to be okay so far
( fingers crossed). Also discovered a
lot of my aches/pains is due to a severe
vitamin b12 etc deficiency.
