GERD Medications no longer working...what next?
Posted: 08-16-06 19:49pm

I have GERD as diagnosed by my GI MD and he has prescribed prilosec and later prevacid 30MG...neither does ANYTHING for me. I have used ranitidine 300mg with some success but it is weak compared to the fire in my esophagus. Two questions: 1. Is there any point in trying to find a proton pump inhibitor that will work for me? Any idea what might work? #2 What can I do to get rid of this burning after I reflux? Liquid antiacid doesn't even phase it. My GI doctor has told me to lose weight and more or less washed his hands of me. Any help would be appreciated.

It seems that, in your case, the medications are no longer having an effect on the acid reflux you are experiencing. You might consider new therapeutic procedures for longer term ease of GERD such as a surgical or endoscopic fundoplication. You can consult your gastro intestinal (GI) medical doctor about this possibility!
