a Week Old Sweet Baby
Posted: 08-17-06 09:26am

I can't believe that it's already been a week! Aly is doing sooo well. She's such a sweet baby. She hates being put down for any reason... She only wants to be held and cuddled. We've put her in her swing a few times, and she seems to enjoy it until she realizes she isn't in our arms, and then she starts to whimper. My husband has to watch how he holds her - she tries to find his nipples to nurse if he holds her cradle-style.

Speaking of nursing, she's a pro! She gravitates between cluster-feeding (every hour or so) to long nursing sessions followed by a 4-hour nap. She absolutely hates pacifiers... I think it might be because she's irritated there's no milk coming out of them. She wants the comfort of suckling though, so to keep her from overfeeding, .I've had to give her the breast she's already drained. It was a bit rough on my nipples the first few days, but they're toughening up.

She usually falls asleep while nursing, but she'll wake back up once we put her in the crib and start screaming. So .I've had to let her sleep on my chest for a half hour or so to make sure she's really out before sneaking her into her crib. My inlaws keep warning me that .I'll spoil her, but I don't agree. Aly wants to feel comforted in her mother's arms, and I don't mind that in the slightest. I'd prefer her want to be with me than for her to not want to be touched. Besides, I don't know if newborns can be spoiled anyway. They don't have the mental capacity to understand cause and effect yet.

She smiles in her sleep! ~~~melt~~~ .I know it's involuntary, but it's the most beautiful smile! It perks me up when .I'm sleep-deprived, lonely (husband went back to work this week), and worn out. I can't believe how much I love her.

Okay, .I'm done raving! Motherhood is awesome. :)

Jillian - yeah, she has a whole .Classic .Pooh theme happening. My grandmother used to read the books to me when I was little, so it always reminded me of happy childhood memories. I was so happy when they put out the .Classic .Pooh set! My daughter will probably grow up sick to death of .Pooh :(

melissa - she totally looks like her daddy. Blonde hair and blue eyes all the way!
