They Couldn't Do Abortion, I'm Terrified!! Posted: 08-17-06 18:36pm
I went today to have an abortion, and they
said they couldn't do it because they gave
me an internal sonogram and it showed
nothing in my uterus. They said the
embryo hadn't made it's way into the
uterus yet, and told me to come back in a
week. I took two tests five days ago, the
first day after my missed period, both of
which immediately came up positive. I
have been to probably twenty or so web
sights that said a home pregnancy test
won't come up positive until like 10 days
or more after conception, and mine were
very clear. I've been to thirty or more
web sights that said implantation in the
uterus occurs between 5 and 7 days after
fertilization, or there-about. By all my
calculations for when I likely got
pregnant, I should be now 20 days past
conception, or approximately five weeks
along by medical terms. How is it humanly
possible that there is nothing in my
uterus? I have also had a fever for four
days, for two days it was 99.1 and
yesterday it was 99.3, today at the
clinic, it was 99.6. I've also been
feeling for about a week and a half now
weak and dizzy/lightheaded. I have had a
couple of sharp pains in my right side,
but not consistenly, and only when I sit
up from laying down. Could I have an
ectopic pregnancy? Is there something the
clinic isn't telling me? Help? I would
appreciate any response on this,
especially from those who have been there
before and most especially from medical
doctors. Thank you so much!

It may not be in your uterus but you might
have a tubal preg. Its best that you go
to your reg. Dr. Asap and get your self
checked out. And abortion isn't your
only option. Please be aware of that.

You may have a tubal pregnancy, and if so,
then abortion is the only answer, unles
you want to die. I'm only being this
harsh because of what kissofangel said.
You definately need to get checked out, as
soon as possible, you feverish symptoms
are not a good sign.

you went to get an abortion at 5 weeks
pregnant? I wasn't aware they did them
that early - it was my understanding that
the soonest they do abortions was 6 weeks.
I'm somewhat curious why they did an
internal sonogram on you...
That said, the egg is implanted somewhere
or your pregnancy test wouldn't be
positive. What did the pregnancy test at
the clinic come up as? What did they
recommend to you - wait it out or...?
If you are at all uncomfortable with this
clinic, go see your own doctor.
Good luck!

Thank you all for your responses. I do
realize that if it is ectopic, there is
nothing that can be done to save the
pregnancy. I am sure kissangel meant that
if it were not ectopic, I had other
options. It doesn't bother me the
suggestion of other options, but people
who don't know the whole story wouldn't
understand all the reasons I am not
choosing the other options. As far as
them not doing abortions til six weeks, I
have never heard of this, but they did
tell me to come back in one week, and
rescheduled my appointment. They also
said that I will be charged again for the
second sonogram, which I thought was
strange. I don't know if I am being
"hosed" because they forgot I was in the
waiting room and skipped my appointment,
and couldn't work me back in, so decided
to come up with this story so I would
reschedule, or if it was the six week
thing, but you would think if it was the
six week issue, that as soon as I told
them I was five weeks, they would have
told me at that point to come back and not
had me go all the way through counseling
and what not, only to not have been told
this. As for the test, she did a test
where she dropped my urine and some kind
of chemicals on a round circle on a square
or rectangular plate, then turned it on
and it started rotating. She said that
test was negative. She then took out what
looked like a home pregnancy test, and
dropped drops of my urine in it, and said
that that one was showing positive, though
lightly. Are home pregnancy tests that
much stronger than the ones at a clinic?
Anyway, this morning, pushing on my right
side, because it didn't hurt but felt
funny, I feel like I can feel something,
so I am going to make an appointment today
and if I can't get one, I will go to the
er. Thanks for your responses!

Yes I did mean it if it wasn't a tubal and
your right I don't know the reasons I just
wanted to make sure you knew about all
options not just one. I am very glad
that your are going to see a Dr. To make
sure its not a tubal. Good luck!

What a lot of women do not completely
understand, is that very early in
pregnancy sometimes it is difficult to see
anything at all!
This is why many clinics will not do an
abortion before 6 weeks, because they need
to be able to see the pregnancy, and
ensure that it is not ectopic...
Definately go back in a week, they should
see something then =)
