How far along do you have to be before you are abe to tell the sex of the baby? Like, what is the absolute earliest age you can tell? Thanks for any answers!!

I wouldn't trust it before 16 weeks. 18-22 is most accurate.

Why do you ask?

Um at 16 and some days weeks he gave me a 70 percent chance... And he sounded pretty sure.

It's not enough to go by though so i'ld almost definiatly think anything before 17 weeks can't be reliable, or atleast not enough to paint the nursery pink or blue.

Well all you nosey rosey's....If you must know, my not so good friend is all the sudden wanting to hang out and everything again (she had an abortion nearly 6 mos ago, so I kinda cut all contact to her) and she's now about 12/13ish weeks along and claiming her Dr. Told her she's having a girl. And I was just curious to see if they can even tell that early.
Sorry girls, i'm not pregnant lol!!!

I think i've read that the genitals just start forming around 12 weeks (i could be wrong though). There is no way a doctor would have told her the sex so early. Like tanya said, even at 16 weeks they're not going to be 100%.

Gender can be detected earlier than through ultrasound by amniocentesis... Though she can't play that card since early tests are done at 13 weeks (and you said by 12 weeks she was saying she was having a girl) and most standard tests between 15 and 20 weeks.

I think your friend is fibbing.

she said she had an u/s. Why she had an u/s this early is beyond me, because here in the .U.S we (normally) only get 1 done, and that's around 20 some odd weeks or so. So i'm pretty sure she's just tryin' to become friends again. So I agree, I think she's fibbing. I hate fibbers.

It really is none of my business but why would someone have an abortion and then get pregnant 3 months later and decide to have the baby?

Perhaps she figured she had a 50/50 chance of guessing right so she just decided to tell you it's a girl. Maybe the joke will be on her and it'll turn out she's having a boy.

Yeah, I was almost 16 weeks and they told me it was a girl. (a girl at the hospital who knows my husband did that one) then my doctor ordered my "official" scan and they also said it was a girl (18 weeks).

I found out at 20-something weeks.. But I could have found out at 16 weeks if they would tell you in this towns hospital but they dont.. And I was told that it was a boy from two differnt doctors from a ultrasound, and a differnt doctor from my amnio I had done said it was a boy too.. So 100% boy.. But yeah, I think your friend is lying to you... Most people dont have a ultrasound done until atleast `16 weeks for due dates.. Did you ask her when shes due?
