Period has been Irregular for 6+ years...am I Pregnant?
Posted: 08-20-06 05:58am

Hi. Im 18 and have been with my boyfriend for sometime now. We do have unprotected sex but I have never gotten pregnant. Well, ever since I have gotten my period, which was when I was 12, its been irregular. Sometimes I will have it every month, but other times I will go months or 2 to 3 years without having one. Well the last time I got my period was about 10 months ago and havent had it since, and I always thought since I didnt have it, I couldnt get pregnant. Well lately, I have been spotting and vomiting. I thought I had a cold or the flu, but I am starting to think its not that. I know its not my period because its just little spots every once in awhile. Can you tell me if its possible that I'm pregnant, before I find out for myself. I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

It doesn't seem likely that you are pregnant because spotting is not a sign of pregnancy. You can take a home pregnancy test to check it out. Obviously, there seems to be a problem with your reproductive function. Long periods without menstruations (amenorrhea) are sign of hypogonadism. Your hormones can be examined (FSH, LH, prolactin, estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, DHEA, thyroxin) to idenitfy what the cause of hypogonadism (ovaries, pituitary gland or hypothalamus). You can go to your gynecologist for these and other examinations that may be necessary.
