What can Cause a False Olfactory Sensation?
Posted: 08-21-06 18:43pm

I smell cigarette smoke almost constantly. This has been going on for 10 days. Two years ago I experienced the same thing - it went away after about a month.
No one smokes in my home or at my job or in my car.
I haven't made any recent changes in diet, medicines, makeup, etc. I don't wear perfumes or use scented laundry products, etc because I am highly sensitive to smell.
Any ideas of cause or cure?

If you are experiencing a false olfactory (smell) sensation, you can consult an ENT first and then you may need an expert opinion from a neurologist. The problem can either originate in the nose or in the brain.
