Okay so at this point i'm not exactly
concerned about being pregnant as I
am on birth control, and I do have a week
and a half before my expected
period. Although I had been taking
anitbiotics a week ago. And
had sex without a condom, but he pulled
out. The reason i'm even posting
is. How extreme are the effects of
antibiotics on your pill, and decreasing
the effectiveness of your pill???
Secondly, i'm very concerned that if I do
find out i'm pregnant I won't have
enough time for an abortion. I've read
some information articles on other
websites that in most cases doctors will
only perform abortions within the
first 12-15 weeks of pregnancy. Obviously
if my period is late, even a day
late I plan to go to the doctor and get
results because my period is normally
very regular. Is it true that abortions
are only done within 12-15
weeks of pregnancy, and if this is true
does that mean that if I were to find
out i'm pregnant and i'm further along
then say 15 weeks will they refuse
to conduct an abortion???
I don't know why i'm so concerned about
this but i'm just trying to get
some answers to ease my mind.
Any answers would be awesome, I need some
relief.

Hi, please let me put some relief in your
head...
Antibiotics do not "cancel out" birth
control entirely, they lower the blood
levels of hormones.. 'some' women may not
be affected by this, but many are..Better
safe than sorry right? I have cared for
women who never knew that antibiotics
interacted with bc, and they never became
pregnant.. I have known others who did
become pregnant, so I would say it is not
worth the risk.
Get this.. The day you miss your period,
you are only about 4-5 weeks pregnant, you
would be nowhere even close to 12-15
weeks..
Many states offer an abortion up to 20
weeks, but you would simply not be that
far along.
Unless you have missed 3 periods, you
would not be 12 weeks!
They measure pregnancy by your last
period, just in case you need to know =)

Aah phewf, thank you so much. That was
very informative.
I don't even know whats going on in this
mind of mine, I mean i'm totally
aware of the possible responsibilities of
having sex. Even though i'm on
birth control and not planning to have a
child at this point in my life i'm
not even entirely sure i'd abort it. I've
just got so much going on right now
that its hard to say what I want, and what
I need.
Anyways thank you so carifairy, you've
definately eased my mind majorly
and i'm very thankful. I don't want any
stress right now as i'd like to have
my period show up on time.

I understand, no matter what happens it is
always important to know your options and
where you stand. I have been pregnant on
birth control, and do know the shock of
realising that it failed. I also work at
an aboriton clinic pt, and do see women
who had condoms break, or they missed
pills, or it just failed them.
Accidents happen, but at least you know.
Because I am pro choice, and have had an
abortion myself, I see nothing wrong with
it..It's just another choice you make in
life.

Yes, consider this: if you have sex two
weeks before your period is due, then by
the time you miss your period, you're only
about two weeks pregnant. Even if you add
another month onto that (and a month is a
long time) that's still only 6 weeks :)

Although they actually measure the length
of pregnancy dating from the first day of
your last period. So by the time you
miss a period you are actually considered
4 weeks pregnant, even though conception
probably only occurred 2 weeks previously.

Well honestly, that doesn't work if the
woman is having periods during her
pregnancy, so then you have to go from the
actual date of implantation; that would
make more sense, since that's when you're
actually technically pregnant. If you
don't have sex until the day before your
period, and then miss that period, i'm
sorry but you are not four weeks pregnant,
you are one day pregnant! That's how my
brother was conceived ^_^.
Also... That is not an accurate
definition of the developmental stage of
the fetus itself. An actual 4-week old
fetus looks much different than a
1-day-old fetus, but according to that
process, both could be considered 4 weeks
old. That's just ridiculous.

Ultrasounds give the most accurate
picture..
You canot have a 'period' during
pregnancy, but you can have bleeding that
'resembles' a period..
That is why doctor ask you for your "last
normal period", or when your last 2
periods were...
They do technically go by last menstrual
period, and the ultrasound technology
helps with this. =)
