Calculation Help, Please?
Posted: 08-26-06 22:47pm

I'm terrible at calculating & fully understanding this ovulation cycle & when I am most likely to conceive & get pregnant. I would greatly appreciate someone's help in figuring this out. I've done research online, but I am still a bit lost.

My last period began on august 14th & ended on august 19th. I had unprotected sex [and both times my boyfriend orgasmed inside of me] twice. The first time was on august 22nd & the second time was on august 24th.

According to those dates, it was directly after the ending of my last period. From what I read, this is when a woman is most fertile?

Thanks for anyone who replies to this post. I'm stressing out more than words can express. My nerves are on edge.

Trying to Conceive

First you need to know how long your cycle is. Your cycle starts the first day of your period and ends the day before your next period starts. Typically most women have 28 day cycles. If you count backwards from the last day of your cycle 14 days (your luteal phase which is typically 14 days) this will tell you monthly when you should ovulate. You want to try to conceive fairly steadily 3 days before your ovulation occurs. So if the first day of your last period was aug. 14, then you have probably, almost definitely ovulated by now. Your next period is due around sept. 11th. You most probably ovulated around august 28th. Remember "sperm can live approximately 3-5 days, and in some cases up to 7 days."

you may want to try ovulation perdiction kits as well. These can be bought at your local drugstore. It is recommended that you test between the hours of 2pm and 8pm. These test are expensive, but clear blueeasy has a test that is digital and it actually gives you a smiley face if you are closing in on ovulation. If you know when you are roughly due to ovulate, test 3 days before estimated ovulation and continue to do so daily until you get that smiley face.

There is ovulation microscopes as well. These are reusable - which makes it really nice. This test is done with saliva. You need to follow the directions very closely with these. Your saliva will actually look like fern leaves or an iced up window if you are nearing ovulation. These usually help detect ovulation 3 days in advance which gives you plenty of time to attempt to conceive.

Also, if you're not already, you should get on folic acid asap. The dose is 400mg per day, unless there is a history of a ceasure disorder in your family, then the dose is recommended at 800mg.

Don't stress yourself out either wondering if you hit the right days or not. Trust me, you will make it harder on yourself and your significant other if you live and breathe for getting pregnant. Enjoy it, don't make it a chore or you'll drive yourself crazy - I almost drove myself and my husband crazy.

Here are some websites I have found helpful with tracking my cycles, they are great and they can give you descriptions of what to look for in cervical fluids, cervical positions and how to track your basal body temperature to pin point ovulation. Check them out:

any more quesions, let me know. My husband and I are trying to conceive as well.....Good luck to you!!
