I'm hoping this question can be answered really quickly. Me and my hubby want to move to america (specifically california) in the next 5 years.
Now we know it is really hard to get a green card to live there permenantly as you have to provide a use.

Well the thing is I am going to re-train as a midwife but my friend told me they don't have them in america and pregnant women are seen by their doctor. Is this true?

If so I am thinking of re-training as a nurse instead so at least I will provide a use! Lol

anyone know specific laws for california as a regards to people wanting to move there from the uk?

This would be really helpful. Thanks

We have midwives over here!!
Since this war is going on, it may be a little hard and take awhile to get a greencard. I would go ahead and try to get one soon if your seriously planning on moving here. Just in case. U never kno since there is a war

Getting a green card has less to do with the 'war' and more to do with new regulations since .September 11th.

We do have midwives here. There are probably different requirements than you would have in .England though.

Why did you choose .California? Depending on where you live in .Ca, it can be kind of icky and over-populated. However, it is a major destination for .Brits to live. I think they are drawn to the sun? There are some good .English .Pubs i've been to there ;)

Oh, just come to canada!!!
I betcha it would be much easier with immigration and I think the midwife situation is similar!
(ok, so not quite as sunny and warm....)

Ok, well I live in california!! It gets very hot depending on where you live and there is also alot of traffic! Also, depending on where you live it is expensive too. Good luck!

My hubby works in computing so hopefully he can transfer over to usa as he has a friend who lives in california and he said there are quite alot of i.T jobs there.

I will do my midwifery then but I may just have to take another course when I get over there so that it qualifies.

I think that you might be better off becoming an rn. There is always a big demand for nurses.....

Sep 11th and war have virtually nothing to do with getting a greencard. I'm an immigration attorney. Laws got a lot tougher around 1996 and then again in 2001 (april of 2001 so before sep, 2001).

California is the dirty state! And it's so expensive! My friend moved there to try and live, and she moved back east b/c she said cost of living is really high.

Canada's better!!! Lol

we have free medical care, and if you come to quebec we have daycare for 7$/day. And the schooling is much closer to uk schooling than in the states. Lol

ok well now you have all the options-lol and it helps you'll know people when you come over.
