Colonoscopies And Biopsies - Your Experiencies Posted: 09-04-06 11:53am
Hi!
I just had a colonoscopy and gastroscopy
done and am in my early twenties. Just
wondering about people's experiences:
how many biopsies were taken during your
procedure and what was the outcome?
Has anyone had normal results w/ one gi
but decided to get second opinion from
another gi? What was the result?
I only had 3 biopsies done, and am scared
if they come out normal, b.C then i'd have
no diagnosis. Results come back in 2
weeks. Other quick questions:
how do they diagnose ibs?
When they do the above procedures, do they
also rule out celiac disease?

Hey,
i am in my early twenties and already had
two colonscopies done and I am looking at
my third in the next couple of months.
Basically they found a 3 cm polyp which I
was lucky enough didnt turn malignant yet
(doctor stressed on yet and said I was
very lucky). So people dont believe that
colon cancer only happens when you are 50,
when in doubt get checked!
This was the biggest shock of my life as I
am usually a healthy person.
What were your symptoms? Hope all goes
well with you and good luck

Hi there,
celiac disease can be determined through a
routine blood test. Your doctor must
request it however. I had a 10 cm polyp
removed in 2005 that was precancerous. I
don't have to have another colonoscopy for
3 years. Generally colon cancer is slow
growing. As far as a second opinion, I
would definitely recommend it if you feel
that your doctor is not covering all the
bases. Ibs is an overused diagnosis in
many cases. If you feel that you aren't
getting the care you need then move on to
someone else. I too have had to do the
same thing. I was diagnosed with ibs
even though I don't present with "typical"
symptoms of ibs. I am now under the care
of a great doctor who thinks my problem
may be a condition called sphincter of
oddi dysfunction. I will undergo further
testing to verify this. I hope all goes
well with you. Take care.
