Q: Can a complicated Pregnancy prevent Conception?
asked by: DoctorQuestion on September 7th, 2006
I have just miscarried at 18 weeks, this is my second miscarriage my first being in January this year (at 10 weeks pregnant) both miscarriages were only found out during scans (no signs and no apparant cause)

I have a 16 months old who was delivered by emergency c section after a failed vontouse, could the scar from the c section and the following two D&C hinder my chances of carrying a baby successfully? Are there any tests I should request? and how long should I wait before attempting to try again?

Thank you

Damage to the uterus can happen during a prolonged and complicated first delivery such as you experienced. This might be the reason for the consecutive miscarriages but will have to be confirmed with a hysteroscopy. A hysteroscopy is an endoscopic procedure that allows visualization of the uterus from the inside of the organ. If your gynecologist decides to perform a hysteroscopy you will have to wait a few months until you try conceiving again.
