Using OPKs: Are my LH Surge levels normal? they last for da Posted: 09-07-06 20:39pm
This month I have been using OPKs, on Sep
3 the result line was darker than the test
line, howere on the 4 & 5th I tested and
the result line was still darker than the
test line, the exact same intensity as the
color on the 3rd. On the 6th I tested
again and the result line was darker than
the test line but not as dark as the
previous days. It was my understanding
that the LH surge only lasts a couple of
hours but judging by the OPK mine has
lasted days...is this normal. What
exactly does this mean?

A LH-surge lasts several hours but before
reaching its peak on its way up and after
reaching the peak on its way down; during
this period of time the OPK is still
positive. The going up, peak and going
down of LH-levels may last 3 days and
during that time, the test will be
positive. In any case, you may consult
your gynecologist to check your LH-levels
in the blood. In some diseases such as
Poly-cystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), the
LH-level is increased. FSH-level has to be
checked, too.
