13 And Still No Period?
Posted: 01-23-04 00:03am

I'm 13 and I haven't gotten my period yet. All the girls in my calss have and I feel "left out" my mom got hers really early, like 10. I've also been noticing alot of really sticky clear odorless vaginal discharge. Does this mean something's wrong with me? I'm scared and I don't know what to do. Help plz. Embarassed

Well first of all, don't feel left out sweetie! Your lucky! Lol that discharge is a sign of getting your menstral cycle soon. Also not having your period at 13 is normal. Its even normal not to get it until your 16 or 17, however if it is that long, you should contact a doctor! Good luck!

You should feel lucky! I got mine at 9...And that was embarrassing! You probably are soon going to get it...The discharge is a sign. Just remember there is no such thing as "normal", your time will come.

You look forward to it now - pretty soon you will be wanting it to just go away. For good. Never come back. Please. Pretty pretty pretty please. Smile

I didn't get mine until I was 13 and all of my freinds had been having theirs. I remember feeling left out. My cousin didn't get hers until she was 16 and I think the doctor ended up giving her hormones so that she would start. Everyone is different, so don't worry.

Thanks for your question and also for all the answers to them. My daughter is going through the same thing, that's why I'm here. Although she never said she feels left out because her friends have it I'm sure she feels that way. I will have to let her know it's OK, her time will come and hopefully she won't need any hormone therapy.

yeah, I was a junior, so all my friends definitely had theirs. I felt a little left out and immature, but looking back on it, I'm glad.

The only downside was that when it did decide to come, I was on vacation with a friend and TOTALLY unprepared.

Doesn't have much to do with genetics either...

My (younger!) Sis got it when she was 9, which means way before me (!) &I got it when I was like 13 or so... So it doesn't have much to do with genetics. If you're a bit skinny like I am, it makes sense, sis was a bit on the 'chubby' side & I read somewhere that weight may make a bit of difference too... (But I don't have to tell you Sis has always been jealous of my bodyweight!!) & also, my period was almost always much less painful then hers... I only very occasionally got pain or cramps or such... This may have a bit to do with nutrition too, what kind of food you eat etc.

Anyway, enjoy the time you have!!! Smile

Uhm, just make sure you're not eg doing the anorexia thing or such, this can influence your period too (you lose it). Vegetarianism can sometimes make it irregular or make it go away too... so make sure you are eating proper & get enough nutrients etc. otherwise you might consider supplements of protein, vitamins/minerals...
