hi handyandy,
you're young, you have the power to change
and improve your situation.
It's not how much you eat, it's what
you're eating.
Whatever you do, don't stop eating. If
you cut down quickly your body will go
into starvation mode. Everything you put
in that can be stored as fat will be.
you need to eat often, but good
food.
so breakfast, lunch and supper. In
between meals have snacks (fruit,
vegetables, granola, nuts) and carry a 2l
bottle of water with you. By the end
of the day make sure that bottle is
empty.
Slowly reduce the amount of food you eat.
It's a numbers game. Eg you took in 2000
calories and spent 1800. You have 200
calories left over. You want to be in
the negatives. - = losing
most importantly, change the way you
think.
i used to eat a couple of rows of cookies,
milk, ham and chip sandwiches with no
remorse. The more I learned about what I
was feeding my body the more I began to
improve my eating habits. Newsletters are
amazing for this. They feed you small
amounts of info daily.
get interested in nutrition.
i subscribed to mens health. It's like a
cosmo for men with health facts. Dont
let the half naked, flexed men on the
cover deter you. But dont you dare let
your friends see it. Lol
motivation is a must
surround yourself with motivators. The #1
reason for failure is lack of motivation.
So do everything in your power to stay
motivated. Here's what worked for me.
- pics of hot chicks in your room
- fast music (millencolin is amazing for
this)
routine routine routine
work out the same time every day 6
days/week if you can. The more you work
out the more you'll want to. The less you
work out, the less you'll want to. So 6
days if soo much easier than 4. Maybe not
at first but after 1 month you're flying.
My routine:
1) wake up, have breakfast. Hole
grain bread toast. Peanut butter and
an orange.
2) make a shake to bring to school with
me. (1/3 plain soy milk, 2/3 orange
juice, bananna, kiwi and blueberries)
blueberries you can get frozen. (this
shake is more effective than coffee)
3) eat around 10 (tangerines, apple,
granola bar)
4) lunch. (sandwich with salad)
5) 2pm snack
6) work out
7) supper (high protein + veggies...Little
carbs)
8) get enough sleep... At least 8hrs
here's what you can do today
1) no more white bread...Whole gain only
(not whole wheat)
2) double veggie portions when eating a
meal.
3) introduce soy milk. (you wont even
notice it in the shake)
4) reduce pasta intake.
5) no more soda. It ****ing horrible
for you.
6) eat more salads.(put all the veggies
you can get your hands on in it)
7) limit your junk food. Allow yourself,
lets say, chips once/week.
I was no veggie fan. Tomatoes were gross.
Now I can drink soy milk, eat a tomato
and I love raw broccoli. Take baby steps.
You'll eventually like the vegetable
crunch!
Dont forget...It takes 21 days to break a
habit!
You can do it.

Wow man you dont know how much this will
help me. But, the things your said to eat
like, kiwis and all that stuff. Most of
the time when I try to limit my foods to
healthier things, alot of the time if I
want to make a healthy shake I dont have
the essencials I need, b-berries, kiwis,
soymilk..Etc. Its not that I cant afford
it, its just that I never ask for those
things. So thanks ill try to follow your
routine and see how it works out.

Handy,
you don't have these essentials in the
house at the moment. Here's a trick.
soy
costco has this killer soy mil called
natur-a. They sell them in packs of 6.
It's an enriched organic soy
beverage...Get the original/flavorless
one. The stuff at the local supermarket
seems to be full of crap. Natur-a is
high quality and can sit in your pantry
without refrigeration for almost 1 year.
A good soy beverage has about 1y shelf
life. You'll notice the stuff at the
supermarket expires a month later ;-)
blueberries
in the frozen section of your local
supermarket you should find frozen
containers of mixed berries or
blueberries. Women use these for
cooking. So year round you've got
berries. Even when frozen you can easily
break them apart and put in a shake.
kiwi + banana
this is something you'll have to get
weekly at the store but bananas are super
cheap and freakishly good for you.
parents might annoy
you're parents might give you grief.
They might think you're going over board
with soy milk and caca. Dont listen to
people around you unless it's words of
encouragement. Avoid the
arguments....Just go about what you need
to do.
Routine is really how you'll make this all
happen.

something healthy or whatever, see we
never buy soy milk so when I ask for it
theyre like....Uhh ok? Why?

14 year olds go through weight
fluxuations. However, at 14 and to weigh
as much as you is dangerous. Your bones,
your muscles, your heart is not designed
to carry around so much extra weight.
You are on the right track by wanting to
make a change!!!
No soda. Period. Drink water. (i
don't know why anyone would say to drink
soy milk. Soy in an unfermented state is
bad for you. If you must drink something
other than water try almond milk or rice
milk. Squeeze your own juices. Water
is best--for your skin, your hair, your
body.)
walk, walk, walk. This is the easiest,
non impact exercise available. It's
free, it's useful, it's easy.
Don't eat carbs like bread or pasta.
This includes whole grains. Goodness,
whole wheat bread is still just as bad
(for weight) as white bread! If you must
do grains-- spelt, kamut, and brown rice
flour based products are best. These do
not break down into sugars in your body.
I get the impression that your parents are
not in for the ride as far as you wanting
to make a change. Are they overweight?
Sit down with them and have a frank
discussion about wanting to change your
diet habits. It's so much easier to have
everyone you live with on board if you do
something like this.
Also, allow yourself to "cheat" and be
okay with it. Maybe for the first couple
weeks, you could cheat once every other
day...Then space it out more gradually.
You'll find your tastes changing and
you'll look at the crap you used to eat
and be repulsed by it.
Good luck! The biggest motivator of all
is when you see the scale sliding down,
and your pants sliding down your legs!
:)

maybe for a whole day? Day by day?
Becuase im saying soy is good/bad and im
getting different answers, I need whats
right. And another thing, I run and
walk, plus I work out my muscles, I have
pretty buff...I guess, arms so some of the
weight could be muscle mass, im pretty
sure. And no my parent arnt overweight,

Hi Andy Posted: 09-14-06 13:09pm
Here's the thing, there will always be
conflicting opinions when it comes to
nutrition.
- fruit in the morning is great because of
its high source of natural sugars.
- carbs before workout (at least 2h before
you work out)
- protein after working out (within 30min
if possible)

So, there are many many good advice here.
And you can see a dietician if you feel
like you can't do it on your own. But
don't feel bad. You'll make it, hun!
