Disc Herniation And Surgery? Posted: 09-12-06 02:50am
Does a disc herniation require surgery?
This question can of course not be
answered in general for all patients
however before anyone jumps into surgery
after a doctor recommended this as the
only solution, consider this:
get a second or thirs opinion first and
inform yourself about alternative
treatment possibilities.
Not all doctors know a lot about
alternative methods!
A survey in germany revealed that only
about 20% of back surgery brought the
desired result!
Most back problems heal by itsself after
about 6 to 8 weeks, with or without
therapy only by the right mix of rest and
correct exercises (movements).
More than 50% of adults aged 40 and above
show some degree of a disc bulge on an mri
but only a few have acute pain!
Does the health system favor less
expensive alternatives?, or why are the
cost intensive diagnistic and treatment
possibilities used first and after they
did not bring the expected result
alternatives are considered?
If anecdotal evidence would be counted
then alternative treatment method would
win the competition but the final goal
should be the help for the patient
therefore conventional medicine and
alternative medicine must learn to
cooperate better.
