I Can't Get My Baby Off the Bottle At Night Posted: 09-12-06 11:08am
My daughter is almost two and she uses a
sippy cup through-out the day but I can't
get her to go to bed at night without a
bottle. She hyperventilates and screams
till she can't breathe if you put her to
bed without one,. And she chews holes in
the nipples and she ends up completely
soaked in the morning . Can anyone help
me on how to get her to stop. I've
always just put water in it and tried just
giving her an empty bottle but she still
pitched a fit. Help! I need as many
suggestions as I can get at this point
please

My suggestion although it is very hard is
to let her cry it out for a few nights.
She allows herself to hyperventilate
because she knows that it works. Just
don't give into her throwing a fit.
After a few nights she will get it. A
few hard nights is worth breaking her
habit of going to bed with the bottle.
Especially if she is biting the tops off,
that isn't safe for her. Just also
remember that when she is crying and
throwing a fit she isn't hurting. She is
just plain mad. My son use to throw fits
to get his way and he actually figured out
how to gag himself and puke. Once I
figured out that it was a tool to get his
own way, it didn't take him that long to
stop once he figured out it wasn't working
anymore. It wont be easy but only the
first few nights are the hardest. Be
consistent!! You can do it!! Good
luck!!
