Son's Night Terrors are Upsetting me...what is wrong? what Posted: 09-13-06 07:52am
My son is two years old. For the last week
I have woke up to him crying loudly in his
sleep. hen I go to him, he is tossing ang
turning in his sleep and is hard to wake.
I try to wake him for several minutes, and
usually he opens his eyes and closes them
back while he is still cying. I try
comforting him, but all he does is kick
me. He calms down after about ten to
fifteen minutes. I put him in bed with me
only to be woken up half an hour later
with the same exact thing.Only while he is
crying he starts kicking me. It almost
seems like the kicking is just him
stretching his legs out, like he can't get
comfortable. He curls up and straightens
out over and over. The whole time crying
and not waking. I am so upset, cause I do
not know what is wrong or what I can do to
fix it. This all just happened out of no
where.
According to your son’s symptoms
(“crying loudly and kicking in his
sleep, difficult to wake up during the
event”) it seems likely that he is
experiencing night terrors. Night terrors
are followed by vegetative symptoms
(sweating, fast breathing, enlarged eye
pupils…). Kids experiencing night
terrors are difficult to wake up and
become confused when they wake up.
Further, a child in night terrors
doesn’t remember his/her dream after
waking up. Night terrors are usually not
due to physical or mental disease. Night
terrors usually occur after a stressful
physical or emotional event. They usually
vanish in time. Your son will need help
only if his sleep becomes so disturbed
that he can’t function during the day.
