Herpes? Posted: 09-18-06 03:54am
Hey guys.
I have a question about std testing during
pregnancy.
Here's a short version of a [not so] fun
little story.
My good friend has genital herpes, she
obvious doesn't know who she got it from
or how long she's had it, but her
exboyfriend of 3 years slept with a girl
that my boyfriend slept with before
meeting me. Meaning we all could have
herpes.
Now, .I know that herpes can be hard to
diagnose, because from what .I've read in
the past, you can only test positive for
it if you're having an outbreak. But, .I
was just reading that they can now do a
bloodtest that will show either of the
herpes viruses in your blood before you
even know if you have it or not.
The reason .I'm asking is because the past
week .I have been so itchy &now it's
just really uncomfortable &it's
looking like .I'm getting a rash or
something. So obviously .I'm terrified
that .I have herpes &am getting an
outbreak.
So .I was just curious as to if anyone has
herpes or if anyone knows if they do the
bloodtest for herpes by default at the
beginning of your pregnancy, or if you
have to ask for it if you're worried or
what? What else could be the cause of
itchiness &what looks like a rash that
could be forming? I've never had a yeast
infection or a uti or anything like that,
so .I have no idea.
I am just so scared because if .I do have
it, .I really don't want to pass it to the
baby, which .I know is really rare, but
can be fatal &completely traumatic if
it is passed.
This is all pretty much completely
pointless considering .I'm going to the
doctor tomorrow afternoon. But .I've been
freaking out all night so .I decided .I
had to post, haha.
*sigh*

If you do have it dont flip out too much,
my friend does and was able to have a
vaginal birth as long as there wasnt an
outbreak in the meantime or else it was
emerg c-section. My friend go it in a
similar sitiuation as you are in and says
its not that bad except when you have an
outbreak!
Im crossing my fingers and hope you dont
have but think your life has ended, its
hasnt and you can still have a normal
life, keep us updated!!
