Confused I hope to get some idea on how I can access healthcare being uninsured. One of the hospitals in nyc has quoted a huge sum of money for me to have my baby there. How can my costs be reduced?!

Well I didnt have any insurance, and if your in a lower income bracket then you are qualified for some thing called medicaid...It covers all the costs of being pregnant and having the baby..Thats what I am on, and I haven't had to pay one dimel....Good luck, just go to ur healthdept/dss..I dunno what its called in newyork, check around..

Medical Assistance
A word of the wise though...In wisc. The father must repay the birthing expence if the pregnany woman had the child using medicaid or medical assistance!!!!! I am pretty sure that applies for every state that offeres medical assistance!

The father only has to pay back medi-caid if it is found that he could have afforded the insurance in the first place. The whole process of applying generally rules this out since you are required to show income from both parents.
