Pregnancy tests: how long before they read Positive? Posted: 09-21-06 11:52am
My husband and I are trying to conceive,
my cycle has been regular for the past
three months. I have taken about 5 over
the counter pregnancy tests but they are
come back negative. Could I be pregnant? I
know that I should go to the dr, but it's
really weird that I have no sign of my
period whatsoever. I want to be pregnant,
but am wondering if 5 tests could be
wrong. Does it take a few weeks for some
people to show a positive results with an
over the counter pregnancy test? I
appreciate your time in this matter for
me.
If your period is late and all 5 pregnancy
tests are negative, then it seems likely
that you are not pregnant. When
fertilization and implantation occur, a
pregnancy test becomes positive 5 days
before the date of an expected period. If
the expected period doesn’t arrive, this
is the first sign of early pregnancy but
must also be confirmed with a positive
pregnancy test. Late periods are the first
(insecure) sign of pregnancy. Other
conditions besides pregnancy can also
cause a late period. If you don’t get
your period in the next 2 weeks, you can
go to your gynecologist for an examination
to identify possible hormonal
imbalances/abnormalities in the
reproductive system.
