Question For Those Who've Had Multiple Abortions Posted: 09-22-06 14:36pm
Ok, maybe this isn't the correct place to
put this (but I think it should be here
rather than the abortion debate forum),
but I would like to ask a question to the
women (carifairy in particular) who've
undergone several abortions. I'm not
criticising you or here to mock/attack
you. It's just i'm writing a thesis on
the abortion debate and found multiple
abortions an interesting topic.
Of course, i'm not forcing anybody to
reply, although I hope to get some
response. I would like to ask the
following questions:
how many abortions have you had and
when?
Why did you opt to terminate these
pregnancies (i.E. Circumstances)?
Do you regret your decisions?
Do you admit you were careless to have
multiple abortions (i'm not suggesting
having multiple abortions is careless.
Don't misinterpret me. In cases where
multiple abortions have occurred because
of no birth control it can be seen as
careless and do you view your own
situations as careless or non-regrettable
ok decisions?)?
Did you have support (i.E. Family, father
of child)
and finally a question only for
carifairy:
have your multiple abortions made you
choose a career path around unwanted
pregnancies?
Thanks ever so much for your time.

first, a lack of birth
control is not always the carelessness of
the woman who experiences an unintended
pregnancy. Secondly, the last portion of
the question does not fit because with an
unintended pregnancy, or even multiple
unintended pregnancies, the options are
not "carelessness" or "non-regrettable ok
decisions." you have created an either/or
situation that does not allow for the huge
diversity that many women experience in
their personal situations. Also, with
only these two options, neither of which
are necessary and sufficient (one is
necessary but not sufficient, the other
sufficient but not necessary), you are
limiting the scope and direction of your
thesis. I think it is a bad question and
if I was your professor, I would make you
throw it out or redo it.

multiple pregnancies,
especially unintended pregnancies, can
lead someone to choose a career path
around unintended pregnancies. For
example, all of our nurse practitioners
experienced unintended pregnancies at
young ages, two of them were very young.
Not having the education to protect
themselves, the inevitable occurred. In
order to help other women not get into the
same situation, they have all chosen to
work with us. I am the only one to
terminate a pregnancy, the rest have 2 to
4 children, and they are sometimes more
passionate about the work that we do than
I am.

you misunderstood me. I wasn't suggesting
they are the only two options. They are
just two common options. I am not
limiting the options. The usual factor
for why people are considered/feel
careless about their abortion is misuse of
birth control. Being raped and
impregnated, for example, is not careless
on the mother's half.

Krypos.. I am open to any communication
=) you may also im me for an email address
so we could talk even further than my
explaination could give.
1)how many abortions have you had and
when? I have had 3 abortions..I am 24. I
had 2 at 18 and 1 at 20.
2)why did you opt to terminate these
pregnancies (i.E. Circumstances)?
I cannot use hormonal birth control, and
both my husband and I know this because he
knows my medical history. I used barrier
methods of birth control, a diaphragm and
the "sponge' =) I became pregnant twice
while using barrier methods so I opted to
get an iud, which is just as effective as
tubal ligation. I became pregnant again!
I do use an iud now, but I also use
spermicidal lubricants as well. I was
obviously using birth control because I
did not want to be pregnant, and since I
became pregnant when I did not want to be,
I had an abortion.
3)do you regret your decisions? Not at
all.
4)do you admit you were careless to have
multiple abortions. I feel that
carelessness makes no difference, although
I advocate birth cotnrol and protecting
yourself . I do not feel that I was
careless, I used birth control as best as
I could, and nothing is perfect.
Did you have support (i.E. Family, father
of child) yes, I had and have all the
support I needed to do whatever I want,
but I personally do not ever want
children, so I married someone who felt
the same way.
Have your multiple abortions made you
choose a career path around unwanted
pregnancies?
Yes, partially..My mother is a nurse, and
I always knew I wanted to follow in her
footsteps, I just did not know which field
I wanted. I do enjoy working with
elderly, but I get so much more when
working with womens healthcare needs.
When I had my first abortion, noone knew
where I should I go, or what the best
clinic was for my area.People also tried
to scare me, and said false things about
abortion that they labeled as facts.
I decided that I wnated to be the person
who is supportive, informative, and can be
there for women.
I counsel women, I also assist in the
procedure, and I volunteer with a ride
program to help women get to appointments.
Thanks a lot. I've pmd you, and i'd still
like other women to answer my questions if
they would. The more the merrier!
Thanks again.

My buddy would like to share her
expierence and has given me permission to
post this information to help other woman
as well(her name is sammie)
1.)how many abortions have you had and
when? 2 abortions at 19
2.)why did you opt to terminate these
pregnancies (i.E. Circumstances)?
The time wasnt right &bf was
abusive(posessive as hell too)
3.)do you regret your decisions?
Sometimes, I think if the father would
have stuck around or if the relationship
was better we would have kept it,
sometimes I blame the father for being
such an @ss
4.)do you admit you were careless to have
multiple abortions
no, I was in a relationship that I thought
was normal at the time, he was the man I
thought I would be with in the future and
we already had one child together(later on
though)
5.)did you have support (i.E. Family,
father of child) I have family but they
are only there when they want something, I
have friends but I dont talk openly with
all of them.
Just abit extra to share
the father cheated on me and I ended up
with an std because I didnt protect
myself, I just want other woman to take
care of themselves and fight to live,
abuse should not be tolerated although I
do have one beautiful girl I may not have
other kids because of my .S.T.D
Thanks very much for the post diamondsz
(and thank your friend on my behalf).
Just one extra thing - was she pressured
into her abortions by her boyfriend?

she did it without telling him she was
afraid he would do something or leave her,
basically I got she had an abortion and
then got preggo but kept it the second
time so im wondering if it was out of
guilt.

How many abortions have you had and when?
3 i've had 2 at 19 and 1 at 20.
Why did you opt to terminate these
pregnancies (i.E. Circumstances)?
I am so young, not financially stable yet,
and still finishing up with school.
Do you regret your decisions?
I felt guilt. I don't regret the
decision, it was the best decision for me
at the time.
Do you admit you were careless to have
multiple abortions ?
I have tried a number of birth control
forms, I have had really bad reactions.
I've tried everything: iud-it gave me
unbearable cramps I couldn't even sit in
class. Depot-shot-i gained 35lbs. Othro
tri-cyclene low-the doctor and I could
never regulate this. Nuva ring-didn't
stay inside and my hair was falling out
from it left and right. Condoms-give me
bladder infections. However, I will
admit, I got discouraged being 19 and
having no working method of birth control.
I gave up. I suppose I could've used a
different type of condom. In fact I know
I could've. The first time I got
pregnant, I was with my bf of a year and
we had just gotten our first apartment.
We were having lots of sex and I hadn't
found the right birth control for me.
Instead, of using different condoms, we
just used nothing. It was more convenient
and yes it was 100%careless. The second
time I got pregnant while on the nuva
ring. The third and last time, I had
gotten into a new relationship and we had
both been tested. I did begin to act
careless and had a lot of unprotected sex
with my bf without even thinking of the
consequencs. The third pregnancy, was
ended three days ago. I will say that on
my follow-up appt. I will be getting the
depot-shot. Even though last time I
gained a ton of weight on it. I think i'd
rather force myself to stay ontop of
exercise then to be careless and get
pregnant again.
Did you have support (i.E. Family, father
of child)
the first time my mother took me. The
second and third time my boyfriend 100%
supported me and was there for
everything.
