I had a questionnnn

(no, I am not pregnant, just curious ^_^.)

if you didn't know you were pregnant, but you were, and were still getting "periods" and you decided to test just for the fun of it, would hcg be abundant enough to make a test register positive? Or would the period overthrow it?? This situation is assuming that one is more than just a month pregnant.

You can bleed during pregnancy, but nothing should throw off your hormone levels. That would be a red flag!

But if someone were a month pregnant, then yes, it should show up positive on a hpt. Just to be safe .I'd use first response, though.

The hormone hcg is what stops ur period... So since ur still getting ur period, the hormone isnt there, and wont come up in the pregnancy test. (even tho you may still be pregnant.. I got a full blown period for 2 months into my first pregnancy.. And yes I know I was pregnant i'd had a sonogram done and was 8 weeks along.)

Wait sandra, I read in my physiology book that it is the fertilized egg that releases hcg, so wouldn't it be that regardless of whether you're getting periods or not, you could still yield a positive result? As long as you were pregnant long enough to detect the amount? And since hcg is released into the bloodstream as well as the urine, wouldn't a blood test also yield positive result if taken accurately?

Some years ago when I had my babies, I had 3 periods, but yet I felt I was pregnant so I wnt in and they took a blood tes tnd I showed pregnant and that was after the second period and I still had one more period, they did a test(i don't recall art this time wht the name of the test was called and they said I was 8 weeks pregnant also) I had a bad past with pregnancies the dr told me then that some women do bleed and are still pregnant but both of my last two pregnany's were perfect!

Lets avoid using "period while pregnant" ..No one in this planet can have a true period while pregnant. You may have some bleeding but never a period.

Lol yeah that's why I started out by putting period in quotation marks. I saw the thread awhile back when someone else asked about periods and pregnancy and there was a lot of bickering, I wouldn't want that to happen again.

Anywhooo, thanx or all the replies ladies, it satiated my curiosity ^_^ (i have always wanted to use the word teee heeeee)
