Can cone biopsy/LETZ cause delay in period?
Posted: 09-24-06 01:12am

I just have a cone biopsy/LETZ done around early August, afterwhich I got my normal period which is usually around 28-35 days. Of course, with the stress of the operation I got it within 28 days. Nothing unusual with that. I had sexual contact with my boyfriend after 3 weeks of my operation as advised by my doctor and it fell during my fertile period. 40days now I still haven't got my period but the pregnancy test result was negative. Is it because of the operation I got last August that cause the delay in my period or is it causing the negative result for the test?

A cone biopsy has nothing to do with the delay of your period. Additionally, a negative pregnancy test excludes pregnancy as a reason for the delay in menstruation. Period delay can be due to reasons other than pregnancy. One of the most common reasons is the persistance of a functional ovarian cyst. You may request a vaginal ultrasound to find out if an ovarian cyst is, indeed, present. If there is a cyst and the cyst is not larger than 5cm, you should wait for 2 cycles and observe the menstrual cycle again. Small functional cysts usually disappear spontaneously. If the cyst is larger than 5cm or if a smaller cyst still exists after 2 months, it has to be removed. You can go to your gynecologist for an examination.
