How did I contract Chlamydia? how long before sterility dev Posted: 09-29-06 09:31am
Hi, I am a college student away from home
and I have some questions that I am scared
about. I went to my school health center
and I was tested and diagnosed with
Chlamydia. I need to know is there any
other way that I could have gotten
Chlamydia other than through sex or oral
sex. Thus, this will help the dicussion
between me and my sexual partner. We are
very confused about how the disease got
started. About a month before I got the
symptons for Chlamydia, I had alot of
severe itching around my penis and scrotum
and eventually the severe itching went
around to my butt and my anal opening.
I'm sorry for any inconvenience but I
really, really would appreciate it if you
all are able to help me and answer my
questions. I would also like to know how
long does a person have to have Chlamydia
in order for infertility or sterility to
occur. Please help and it would be
greatly appreciated. Thank You.

Chlamydia can be transmitted only by
sexual contact (mainly vaginal). It can
also be transmitted via oral sex only if
the secretion from the vagina or the penis
somehow reaches the eye (conjunctiva).
Your sexual partner MUST BE examined for
possible a Chlamydia infection. If she
does have a Chlamydia-infection there are
3 possibilities: 1. you imported the
infection by cheating on your partner; 2.
she imported the infection by cheating on
you; 3. either of you (or both) had the
infection before meeting each other.
Chlamydia infections show no symptoms in
30-50% of all cases. Infertility or
sterility in women can occur if the
infection spreads to the ovarian tubes and
causes chronic inflammation with fibrosis
and occlusion. In men, sterility can occur
if the infection affects the testicles.
The time required for developing
complications is highly individual.
