In the Er This Weekend With Melia

Well, my .Melia was ill this weekend. We
got home from work and she had stinkies
and it was really runny.....Well with-in 2
hours I changed 4 diapers. I called the
doctor and he told me to give her
pedialite. I called my sister and she
came and took me to the wal-mart. I gave
it to her (she didn't like it too much)
and we went to bed. At 2 am we awoke and
she was burning up. Melia had a fever if
102.4 I rushed her to the er and they
started putting fluids into her and
montering her. She started throwing up.
We were there for 5 hours. They
wouldnt' let me feed her until they
figured out what was wrong with her. I
couldnt' stand it. I finally got in the
doctors face and was like d*mn it your
going to come in here and take care of my
baby and figure out what is wrong with you
or I am taking her out of here. They
finally took care of her and I got to take
her home. They coudn't figure out what
was wrong with her though.
She is much better now though.
It makes me cry just thinking about it.
It breaks my heart just thinking about my
baby in such discomfort.

They didn't know what was wrong with her?
That's horrible... What if it happens
again? Did they tell you any remedies you
could try at home for her, or what might
have caused her symptoms? That is so
scary! Poor .Melia!

It seems like at hospitals that's pretty
much what you have to do to get their
help, we were there for almost 8 hours one
night with my grandma and they ended up
just giving her some medicine and sending
her home, not even worth it! I'm glad you
demanded them to figure something out, too
bad they couldn't figure out what was
wrong! I hope she stays healthy!

Yeah she had an iv. It was horrible. I
couldn't stand it. I am so glad that my
sister went with us becuase I just wanted
to die. They told me that it could have
been the formula that I had to give her
friday afternoon. I got mastitis (sp)
and it hurt so much to feed her that I
gave her some formula because I didnt'
think that she was getting enough from me.
They said that she may/may not be lactos
tollerant and that I should try soy
formula. I have just contined to breast
feed her.
Poor thing was down to 10 lbs when we got
ready to leave the hospital. She has a
doctor's appt tomorrow to make sure that
she is ok.

I know it really really hurts but the best
thing for mastitis is to get your baby to
fully feed from that breast.
One of the common causes of mastitis is
baby not fully emptying that breast.

ive been trying....But it really
hurts.....I can't hardly stand to feed her

milk is best for her so I still want to
feed her. So I am trying.

**ouch**
i'm sorry to hear that your baby had to go
through all of this! I'm sure it'll
happen to all of us at one time, ya know?
I just wish they could talk and let us
know what's wrong! I feel so helpless
when she's sick and miserable! She's
gotten a cold twice and i've caught it
along with her and it was *horrible*!!!!
We were in the bed the whole week resting,
both times!!
I'm glad she's feeling better and i'm sure
her dr appt will go good tomorrow! Oni
has a dr appt tomorrow too! I think she
only gets 2 shots this time!! She got *4*
the last -two- times!! That's horrible!
They get "flu like symptoms" with some of
the shots and they just .C.R.Y!!!

I haven't had mastitis yet, but I have had
clogged ducts before. It felt like a golf
ball inside my boob! I couldn't even
cross my arms without it hurting! What I
did was alternated cold and heat against
the swollen side, then used my manual
breast pump to empty it as much as
possible. I used my pump instead of .Aly
because she gets pretty aggressive with
the boob! She wants her food
.Y.E.S.T.E.R.D.A.Y!
I spent maybe two hours doing that: ice
pack, heating pad, pump, etc. I just put
a movie on and worked at my boob, and by
the end of the night it was much better.
The next day the lump was completely gone
and so was the pain.
Not sure if this will work for your
mastitis, but you could try! And it'll
keep your milk production up too. *hugs*

I was lucky with .Melia she didn't get
irritable with her shots and she wasn't
that bad this weekend....She slept really
well (except for friday night.) but
watching her in the hospital was the
worst. It ripped my heart out watching
her cry while they poked her.......I
yelled at the nurse and told her that I
wanted someone else to do it because she
had poked her twice and nothing. The
head guy (what ever you call them) came in
and did it right away.

*sleep without a bra. At other times,
wear a looser fitting bra that does not
put pressure on the affected area. Or if
possible, go without a bra.**
i can't go without a bra because whenever
I do I get breastmilk all over everything.
My breasts just spew all over everything
if I don't wear a bra. Lol
i think the fever is gone out of it. It
doesn't feel warm anymore. So that is
good. I don't think that I would wish
that on anyone else.

Hahaha i'm the same way, .Gen. I have to
wear a bra + pads every hour of the day,
which really screws me up now because I
can't wear half my shirts anymore. You
can either see the color of the pads
through my shirt and bra (big white
circles aren't very sexy), or you can see
the shape of the pad itself. And I can't
go without, because my shirt will be wet!
I thought I could get away with just a
pajama top around the house, and within a
half hour I was soaked through!

Wow, that's horrible they didn't know what
was wrong with her. I had a similar
experience where I took my 4 month old to
the er at 1 am in the morning. He had a
fever of 103.5 and was vomiting and had
the runs. They said he had pneumonia and
gave him a inhaler with a chamber since he
was so young.. The next day I took him
to the pediatrics cause I didn't think
they were right about there diagnoses or
maybe they were just missing something.
Turned out her was positive for rsv.
angers me off knowing that the hospital
missed that. I clearly told them he was
born 5 1/2 weeks premature. They never
want to listen to the parents. Sorry to
hear about your daughter. And I am so
glad to hear she is doing better.

I am sooo sorry to hear about that little
.Amelia. You can get those cloth bed pads
and put them where you put your boobs at
night. I hope her temp broke. Sometimes
I really don't like er pedialite generally
works pretty good. I hope ther pediatric
dr finds out what is going on or hopefully
irt was a little bug but I know how you
feel, when my kids used to get sick, I
always worried and yelled at the dr's
myself. Even if I knew them. My thoughts
are with the both of you!

Wow, see and this is a big issue of mine
with hospitals, they dont care, I went to
one a while back cause my throut closed
up, im allergic to mold and someone had
brought some spores into the house on
their clothes, and by the time they saw me
they had already given me something and I
was quite a bit better, they had taken a
broken ankle in front of someone who
couldnt breath, that makes a lot of sence
right? And by the time I went back they
told me I was fine and I hadnt even needed
to come in and to just go home, stupid
sorry, ima bit ranty and moody tonight,
but I really hope she stays well, anyone
with an iv isnt good, but a baby wtih an
iv just breaks my heart, a baby in the
hospital at all breaks my heart
how old is she? (sorry I think I saw that
somewhere but I just cant remember) cause
if its dehydration tahts contributing,
pedialyte is something that should keep
her on the right track until she is
completly better, and if she really doesnt
like that you could try water...Just an
idea
