Question About Missed Bc Pills And Pregnancy Posted: 10-03-06 14:19pm
Hi there,
this past month, I missed the first day of
my new pack of birth control pills. My
boyfriend and I had protected sex two days
later, but i'm really worried because my
breasts hurt some and feel a little
swolen. I'm not expecting my period for
two more weeks, and will have to wait
until then to take a pregnancy test. I
think I may just be overreacting, but I
can't help it. What are the chances I
could be pregnant?

I'd say slim to none.I wouldn't worry if I
were you but take a test when you can just
in case!

Mid cycle breast tenderness can be quite
normal in non-pregnant women. I wouldn't
worry. If your period is still 2 weeks
off, you are only just ovulating.
Although, being on birth control, you
aren't actually ovulating. Missing your
first pill and then having protected sex
isn't putting you at greater risk for
pregnancy.
If you miss your period altogether, take a
pregnancy test.

when you say you missed the pill, you did
make up for it and took 2 the next day
right?

even if she didn't, she had protected sex
and her period isn't due - she wouldn't
have had a chance to ovulate at that early
a date.

In answer to your question nataliachick, I
actually didn't take the missed pill for a
week. I'm usually so good at remembering
but I got messed up this time. I'm just
worried because my breasts have hurt for
several days now and my period is not due
for another two weeks. Could the breast
tenderness possibly just be due to missing
that first pill? I didn't think breast
tenderness was normal for less than a week
after possibly being pregnant. I'm
driving myself crazy worrying about this.
Thanks for all of your responses everyone.
They are very helpful.

you are not pregnant. You are scared.
At this point there is absolutely nothing
you can do about a *possible* pregnancy.
But I will say this again, you cannot have
sore breasts due to pregnancy unless an
egg has been fertilized. Do you know when
you ovulate? Usually 2 weeks prior to
your period (not at all on birth control,
actually) and if you are at the 2 weeks
before your period point right now, what
you are feeling is midcycle breast
tenderness and turned it into a pregnancy
symptom with fear and worry.
Wait until your period is due/late and
take a pregnancy test. What will worrying
accomplish at this point?

yeah over reacting a tad. One missed pill
is unlikely to get you pregnant. Youre
chances are about 1-5% ...Thats pretty
much zip!

no. You are considered 'safe' 7 days
after your start. So this month she had
an 8 day placebo week. Her risk of
pregnancy is going to be quite low -
considering she also had protected sex.
Your body can take a while to ovulate, it
doesn't happen by one missed pill. Don't
get me wrong, it totally can! But if you
take all your other pills correctly and
use protection, your risk is very low.
