How Do I Get Treatment Or Education About Dyslexia Posted: 10-03-06 18:30pm
Okay, so I found out in college I was
dyslexic. I am very good at reading and
writing. Except I am absolutley terrible
at math, even basic math like adding and
subtracting I have to take longer to think
about than others. Also, I can read fast
but I have a hard time comprehending what
I am reading and when I talk sometimes
what I am thinking about what I am going
to say in my head comes out backwards from
my mouth. Like two words are mixed up or
whatever. I have a hard time reading a
clock and my lefts and rights I am always
getting mixed up. My problem is I dont
have insurance and have never had any sort
of treatment or education on how to deal
with my dyslexia and could use some advice
or recommendations. Also, about the
workplace. I am looking for work and
found myself not applying for some jobs
that I may think dyslexia might affect.
So, another question is, do I let the
employer know I have this during an
interview or after I am hired, or how do I
even mention a thing like this? I am
lost at words...

i totally understand you. ive known about
my dyslexia since i was seven and didnt
learn to read until i was eight. there are
many different types of Dyslexia and even
more different symptoms. you have problems
with math, this is probably Dyscalula. to
cut this short, Dyslexia is much more
complicated than people think. id like to
talk to you via email or private message
on this site to tell you more. one thing
you must understand is what you have
problems with in terms of your Dyslexia
will vary throughout your life. for a few
years you may have problems mostly with
math, then either gradually or very
suddenly, your main problems will be with
speaking or reading or any of the others.
as for your job hunt. dont tell your
employer durring the interview. if you
feel you have to tell him/her, i advise
you only do this if it becomes a real
problem. anyways, give me an email or PM
and ill talk to you more and help you
further.

Check out the "Am I Dyslexic" forum. I
hope it helps. Let me know what happens.
I'm currently in the process of getting
tested and am in a confused state right
now.
