Cervix
Posted: 10-04-06 16:15pm

Today when I had my ultrasound the lady measured something and took a pic and when she left the room I looked at the screen and it said "cervix 3.00cm" im curious if that means im 3 cm dilated? Or if its something comleltly differnt, on the bottom part of the ultrasound immage there was a drawn picture of a preg lady and it had a line from the belly button to the bottom of her crotch... So I unno if that ment anything but im curious.. What do you girls think?

That could be how thick it is in inches or centimeters.

They would've told yo if you were 3cm dialated!!! Jesus..I hope so!!

I'm sure all is good! I know it's hard *not* to fret...But don't worry too much!!!

Sh't, I wish they wouldn't have told me something! Idda made such a scene!!

Are they like that for a reason?? Like are they quiet with everyone?

I'm sorry you're not enjoying your doctors office! That's just not cool!!

I would take much notice of the readings on the ultrasound. They are more to do with the direction of the cervix as a regards to the ultrasound monitor itself.
It can sometimes mean the zoom ratio etc.
If you are curious you should ask your midwife/doctor at your next ultrasoung to see if you have dilated.

An ultrasound doesn't check for dilation of the cervix. Your doctor/midwife has to manually do that.

It sounds to me like it is the length of your cervix. Which they can check via ultrasound.

I hope that helps.

Next time just keep tapping her on the shoulder over and over again and say "wuddya doin wuddya doin wuddya doin" they should freaking tell you what is going on!

yes that would definatley make sense. The average cervix length is 3 and 5 cms in length, with one end at the top of the vagina (the external os) and the other end inside the womb (the internal os).

So it probably was your cervix length. I'm really not with it today for a midwifery student Rolling Eyes

Unfortunately sonographers are not allowed to talk about your sono. It is against the law they are not doctors they could be sued if they gave you incorrect information, that is why they say that after it is reviewed all the info will be sent over to your doctor. I know I hated it to especially when they kept telling me that I had echogenic bowel and etc. When I was preggo. But I agreee they need whoever reads them to do the sonos so that we know what is going on and not waiting until the doc get the info

Yeah, this was my last ultrasound so I wont have to deal with the whole lot of nothingness.. Lol.. When I went to a differnt city for an ultrasound the guy who did it talked to me and explained things and told me my baby is a boy.. And our hospital in my town is run by a cathlic church so they cant tell us the sex and stuff which I think is completly ridculous

That would be the length of your cervix , if u were dilated they would have said u are such and such dilated , my dr last appt said iwas 2cm but I am pretty sure she was referring to my cervix cuz the appt after that she said my cervix was short wich im guessing it must have shortened since my last appt cuz she said I had to take it easy , just in case your wondering no well as far as I know im not really high risk they track the baby by ultrasound they dont measure your belly or listen for the heartrate they do the heart on ultrasound when they measure the babys growth and check your cervix at every appointment, im living overseas and going to a german hospital not an american one so they track a pregnancy alot different then the states.
Before I was unaware about your cervix being a certain length till I looked up about it cuz I had no idea what the dr was talking about when she said I was 2cm but everything was good cuz im only 28 weeks then telling me my cervix was short wich is basically same as thinned out etc but they use diff wording here .
