Any of you ladies ever went med free in labor? My doctor is suggesting it b/c they don't recommend epidurals for patients with a history of seizures (don't know why). He said he only wants me to have an epidural if I have a seizure and they have to do a c-section. I start lamaze next week, but I am scared about going med free... He even went as far as to say no epidural even if they have to induce me.... Sad

I am taking a hypnobirthing course and I love it! It is meant for people who want to go all natural.. Or a mostly natural approach with very light intervention if any at all. I think you should check it out! It is benifical outside of delivery for everyday stressful situations too!

I went totallt drug free. No 'iv', no nothing!

I don't know about hypnobirthing. I do know that all it takes it focus and energy.

I would looove to go through labour again. It was the best experience i've ever gone through. Too feel what women have felt for centuries, and to know that I would've been able to deliver at home(which I plan on for my next child) made me extatic!!

I did *a lot* of research on birthing and it helped!!

Don't be afraid of the pain....It only gets *so* bad, then it levels off and your pushing....

My baby was born less than 3 hours after we got to the hospital. And I contribute that to being totally drug free.

Good luck!

If you have any questions about any part of labor, let me know!!

If you can get a good breathing rythm down then going med free will be easy. It also helps if you are able to move freely because laying down in a bed will make contractions worse, at least it did for me.

I too went natural with both of mine but was given something when they stitched me up. I would not want to have them at home in case something went wrong but we are all different. Don't worry the dr will give you an epi if he feels you need one, the main thing I learned was your breathing. Lamaze helped alot, it helps to have a good partner.

Yea having someone to help talk you through is the most important! I didn't take any classes, but I am an esthitician and know how to do my cleansing breathing rituals.

Many women tense up during a contraction, which I started to do. But my nurse told me to make my body jello and wiggle the pain through my toes. And it helped sooo much!! In the video you can see my feet constantly moving.

Because I didn't have an epidural or an iv, I was allowed to get in the shower, squat, walk, rock, anything. It hurt like a mother, but I know it helped ease my baby down.

You can do it. It's not something that's impossible. My doctor told me "yea right" when I said at my previous appt that I didn't want any medical intervention.

Many doctors suggest you getting an epidural in the case of an emercency. But I was determined to have my baby without the use of any medicne.

Having a birth plan is something everyone should do. I knew exactly what I wanted and didn't want and I knew the hospital coudn't force me to do anything.

I *almost* went drug free. I ended up getting an epi right at the very end, and was pushing about 45 minutes later. If I had known I would be pushing so soon, I wouldn't have gotten one at all. I went over 26 hours of labor without one, and it only got really bad at the very end for me. In the heat of the moment you think you're going to split in two, but the pain .D.O.E.S end! Just try to take it one contraction at a time, don't waste your energy worrying about the next one, and you'll have your baby in your arms before you know it! Good luck!

I've heard that you can get a shot in your cervix that only numbs the cervix and vaginal opening, but you can still feel the contractions. I'm thinking about doing that. Gonna ask my doc about it next week.

All of you guys that have done it naturally are much better than me. But then again I was in labor for like 3 days before even going into the hospital. I didnt' get my epi until right before the section. I may not have gotten one if I was going to push. But then again thats easy to say now that she is out. Lol
