TMN Classification explanation and relation to treatment Posted: 10-08-06 05:21am
Hello,
I’ve had a colonoscopy one month ago.
The doctor found a polyp and has been
removed.
After biopsy they discover that it is a
concert. The cancer has been well isolated
inside the polyp, which has 7 mm, but the
margins have just 1 mm.
What is the best treatment?
Thank you very mach.

Treatment of colon cancer depends upon the
cancer’s stage. The stage of any cancer
is calculated given the values of these 3
categories: T-size of the tumor; N-whether
or not the cancer has spread to local and
regional lymph nodes, and M-metastasis in
distant organs. These 3 categories create
the so called "TNM-classification" of the
disease which is most important for
establishing its stage. The
patho-hystological report and additional
imaging diagnostic procedures (abdominal
ultrasound, abdominal and head CT-scan,
chest X-ray, bone radio-scan) are
absolutely necessary for establishing
proper TNM-classification and staging of
cancer.
At this time, I need more data to
determine the TNM-classification and
stage. I can’t tell you anything about
the possible treatments now. You MUST
consult your surgeon and oncologist about
the proper treatment according to the
stage of the cancer.
