Hey-
I suffer from ocd also. I have never been diagnosed by a doctor. Although I have been diagnosed for depression. I know I have ocd also from the statistics and the habits I have and can't control doing them. Since I have been put on effexor xr for my depression in sept. 2003 right after my daughter was born I haven't really had many occurences or "attacks" possible you could switch meds? Do you suffer from depression at all? I am currently thinking about telling my doc about my ocd but I was always too embarassed to tell him.

Hey

hey .. I was diagnosed a year ago and was put on celexa it still works but lately with the birth of my son its kind of harder to deal with.. Yes I also have depression which my celexa treats aswell..I was thinking about switchin meds my doctor recommended paxil which has been shown to work wel.. But I am scared it wont work:s and the only way to know that is if I go back to having major anxiety attacks and going back to my very compulsive ways.. You should talk to u doctor about ocd I am not sure if effoxer covers it aswell. My mom takes effoxer for depression.. Check with ur doc .. Have u found any helpful ways on dealing with irrational thoughts and helpful ways on how to fight off urges for compulsive bhaviour... I have gone back to counting the stairs as I walk up and down then because of the fact I am scared to fall.. I dont wanna count stairs anymore if u have any suggestions that would be great

I'd like to talk to you on a messenger of some sort if you have one. I have yahoo messenger, and aim. I have some questions for you about ocd. I am pretty sure I have it...But uncertain..I'd like to ask you about some of the things I do. I could list some of them here: I have to check to make sure the doors are locked over and over again. When I put my daughter to bed I feel like if I don't check on her every couple of mins she will be dead, I tap my teeth together and count, all in all I feel like if I don't do something a certain amount of times or if I dont do something specific that something bad will happen. It's hard for me to explain.

When I feel an "attack" coming on I just have to totally take my mind off of it and do something else. It's really hard and sometimes it dosen't even work. Laughing

Hey

hey hun I dont have yahoo but I do have msn if u have that my adress is unavoidabledamage@hotmail.Com.. Basicly the way the phycatrist(spelling?) explained it to me is ppl who suffer from ocd are the most unhappy ppl in the world because of the fact that they always thing think the worst is going to happen and because they think that way the develope little habbits that they think will help prevent things from going wrong.. So basicly obsessive is the thoughts u have compulsive is the actions that you do for the thoughts.. It sounds like u have some characteristics of ocd.. If u have msn add me we can talk sometime or I can try to get set up with yahoo let me know

sorry i'm late in joining this discussion. Look into cognitive behavioral therapy (cbt) it gave me my life back and eventually got me off of all meds. My favorite starter book on cbt is "been there, done that? Do this! By sam obitz and many universities offer programs for little or no charge. It is considered one of the most effective treratments for ocd, panic and most other anxiety related conditions including hypochondria. Take care!

I am 29 yrs old. I have ocd, adult add, depression and anxiety. My ocd symptoms are very weird at times. I thought maybe I was just crazy till my dr told me what it was. What I do to try and control it is that when I catch myself doing or thinking these crazy thoughts I stop and tell my self they are not real. It helps some of the time. Sad Sad Sad
