What are the side effects of Lipicard, or fenofibrate? Posted: 10-13-06 05:58am
I am 38, working in BSNL, Mumbai. I have
slight chest pain last week, our family
doctor advised several tests such as ECG,
Stress, Lipid profile, urine, sugar &
CBC. Everything is normal except Lipid
profile, my triglycerides are very high at
417(normal up to 170), HDL cholesterol is
39 (normal 30-70), and LDL cholesterol is
again very high at 83 (normal up to 35).
Our family Doctor prescribed Lipicard 160
MG for two months and asked me to repeat
the test after two months., my question
is, IS THERE ANY SIDE EFFECT of Lipicard
160 mg ? , if yes, what damage it will
cause., please tell me if there is any
side effects of Lipicard 160 Mg indeed. I
am healthy and can burn out execess fat on
treadmill and ab-coach and with controlled
diet I will try to bring down cholesterol
with out Lipicard 160 Mg.
Thanks.
Rajendra
According to the laboratory results
(increased LDL-cholesterol and
triglycerides) you must use an
anti-hyperlipidemic because diet and
physical activity may not be enough to
normalize the blood lipids alone. Lipicard
(fenofibrate) is a type of
anti-hyperlipidemic drug used in cases
like yours. The most common side effects
from Lipicard are: gastrointestinal
symptoms (gas, stomach pain, upset
stomach, constipation, nausea, vomiting);
common cold-like symptoms (runny nose,
chills, fever, and sore throat); allergic
reactions (skin rush); dizziness; fatigue,
etc. When using fenofibrate, be aware also
that there is increased risk of
experiencing gallstones.
