Nose Bleed - Followed By a Membrane Coming Out of Nose Posted: 10-15-06 19:08pm
My bro in law, 18 yr old, gets random nose
bleeds, just be standing /sitting /lying
and it will start bleeding, first a
trickle of blood, then a constant stream,
but towards the end, he feels the nose go
slightly funny, then a membrane (like a
sack that held all the blood) slowly moves
out of his sinuses and drops out of his
nose......
Gp has said its from picking his nose, I
cant say that I have noticed him as a
regular nose picker.
Would u recommend a second opinion and
even a referal to a ent specialist?
Thanks.

Ew, that was pretty graphic and nasty!
But understandable. Hmm - not to jump to
conclusions or anything but my brother had
that problem and it was from his cocaine
use back in the day. So if he's using
cocaine or has used it for a while then
that would be my first thought.
But if cocaine isn't in the picture I
wouldn't think that "picking your nose"
would cause nosebleeds, and an actual
membrane to drop out of the nose. That's
kinda sick.

I've had that happen twice.
Both times I have woken up with a "tickle
in my nose" and when I wipe my nose the
tissue has blood on it.
So go to the bathroom to clean up and
it'll feel wierd then (and I know you
aren't supposed to but yeah) i'll gently
blow my nose and this membrane like thing
will come out. Afterwards there is
nothing at all not even a little bit of
bleeding or dried blood.
Almost like someone poked a fake blood
bomb up my nose. - they didn't lol.
But I don't know what it is.

A really close friend used to get really
bad nose bleeds and then would get what we
called a "slug" when it was over. He
would have this nasty thing that was
basically a thick blood clot ooze outta
his nose. Don't worry, it happens, not
too unusual. (anybody up for lunch now??)
