Le Ultrasound Question.
Posted: 10-16-06 23:49pm

As you may have read, my ultrasound is .November 13th!

&.I just realized that she said .I only need to drink one or two glasses of water before .I go in.. Does that sound right to you guys? I'll be 22wks at the time, sooo... I don't know if that makes a difference or what? But .I always thought you were supposed to drink like, a ton of fluids! It wasn't my doctor that told me that, it was one of the receptionists, but .I'd assume she'd know what she's talking about? I don't know, .I just wanted to see if that sounded right to anyone!

I think I had to drink more than that. I think they said drink like 32 oz of water.

My docs always told me to go pee 2 hours before the ultrasound and then drink 3 cups of water... And 3 cups seems more then enough to me... On my last ultrasound I only drank 1 cup a hour before..

I had to pee an hour before my appointment and drink 600ml (which is just over 2 cups) and that's all I had to drink for both of my ultrasounds

I guess mine is different everytime I get an ultrasound they tell me to go pee before I lay down and never say anything about drinking. But with my oldest daughter they saw the cleft lip they told me to go drink some water and walk and come back to make sure that is what they saw.

Thanks, guys.
I think .I'll opt to drink about 2 glasses.

She also said to eat an hour before .I do in.
'cause she said that'll make the baby move around.
Yay!

I wasn't told to drink anything before my ultrasound although I thought i'd read that other women did. I didn't have a particularly full bladder or anything and they managed to get a good u/s. Weird.

It all depends on the person doing the ultrasound. It really doesn't matter whether you drink something or use the bathroom first. It's basically their preference. I've had 3 ultrasounds already and none of the techs told me to drink anything or use the bathroom even though by the time I got to the appt. I had to empty out my bladder anyway :d good luck at your ultrasound and let us know what you're having !!!! Laughing

My ultrasound people told me that I didnt' need to drink that they could see the baby either way. They also told me that if I drank too much before the ultrasound that it would be uncomfortable. My doctor told me to drink but the tech's told me that it wasn't nessissary.

Depending on where you go, you may get different opinions.

I only drink 1 bottle of water(2 cups) and I never have any problems.

I just had my 22 wk u/s last week and they told me to empty my bladder an hour before the appointment and then drink 32 oz of water. But i'm sure whatever your receptionist told you is fine, it probably depends on whos doing it.

I think the reason they ask you to drink water beforehand is because it makes it easier to "float" the bladder out of the way to get a better look at the uterus. I had a full bladder for my first ultrasound, and an empty one for my second. They took my second ultrasound because I was having contractions at 21 weeks, but it came out crystal clear and .Alyvia was perfectly positioned to see the goodies!
