Has Anyone Taken Prozac While Pregnant? Posted: 10-17-06 08:56am
Before I got pregnant I was taking 20mg of
prozac once a day. I have taken it for 2
years for mild anxiety and depression.
After I found out I was pregnant I
immediately stopped taking it. I thought
that I was doing fine and now the
depression and anxiety is coming back.
My ob told me that I can take it if I want
to, but I feel selfish because i'm worried
about side effects. Has anyone take
prozac during pregnancy? I am so
confused. I want to try to manage it
myself but I don't know if I can. Please
help!!!

I havent' mentioned this before but when
my husband died they gave me prozac while
I was pregnant. I took it because the
depressions was worse on my body than the
prozac was. My baby is fine.

I believe you and the baby are going to be
better off if you are in a better
emotional state than if you are depressed.
If you need to take prozac to help your
depression then that is what you need to
do.
Everyone will have their own opinions on
the subject, but you need to do what is
right for you (and the baby).
Good luck!

I know that the general advice is to avoid
taking any medication during pregnancy but
sometimes that just isn't possible. I
suffer from really bad allergies and when
I fell pregnant, I stopped taking my
antihistamines. I became so unwell from
the contant itchiness and lack of sleep
that at 10 weeks I went back on them again
(on my doctor's advice). My baby turned
out fine.
I know it's not ideal for you to be taking
prozac but you need to be well for your
baby. 'depression and anxiety' sounds
like nothing to some people if they
haven't suffered it. Trust your doctor.
If you really feel you can't cope without
it then take the prozac.
Best of luck hun.
