Morning Sickness
Posted: 10-19-06 02:12am

Hi

my girlfriend is now 7 weeks along and she's got very bad morning sickness. She is sick about 3 times a day and can't keep much down in the way of food, although she is drinking plenty of water. Is 3 times a day excessive for first trimester?

Also, i've heard that morning sickness is supposed to be a good thing regarding hormones and hcg? I.E. Less chance of miscarriage? She totally feels crap but I keep trying to reassure her on the so called positive aspects of morning sickness (this is what i've read). I know I worry too much but we're on holiday next week and i'm paranoid that something might happen.

Thanks for any advice!

It's not so much that morning sickness means less chance of a miscarriage. But the hormones that cause morning sickness are the same hormones that continue the pregnancy. It means that since the levels are high enough to make her sick, everything should be just fine for the time being. Miscarriage can't really be predicted or avoided, but morning sickness is a good sign! If you can call it that. Wink

have her eat smaller, more frequent meals, and try to cut greasy food out of her diet. Bread is gentle on irritable tummies, so she might try that too. And don't let her become hungry! I always felt better with *something* in my tummy instead of waiting for meals.

Thanks for the info!

We're going to try one of those sickness bands and see if that helps! She's started eating little and often now, with crackers in the morning so hopefully it will improve things.

Cheers
