Dark Stool, Mild Abdominal Pressure/cramping Posted: 10-23-06 17:13pm
So, i'm 19, in college, and I don't drink
often. (really, I don't. Once a week at
most, and usually less frequently than
that.) however, I drank very heavily two
nights ago (quite a bit of liquor, if that
makes any difference), and I woke up the
next morning feeling absolutely fine.
It's worth mentioning at this point that I
almost never get hangovers.
Anyway, since the binge, i've had fairly
frequent (3 or 4 times a day) bowl
movements that appear a very dark brown or
blackish color, which, based on my
research, seems to be the result of some
sort of bleeding (there are also very,
very small spots of blood on the toilet
paper). I also have some pain on either
side of my abdomen that feels like a mild
cramp, so much like a cramp, in fact, that
the pain usually goes away for awhile
after a good stretch. Yesterday there
were some slight bouts of dizziness, but
those seem to have gone away.
Again, allow me to stress that I am
functioning completely normally and still
going about my day-to-day routine, and
that all of this is very mild.
I can only assume that this is related to
my night of heavy drinking, as that was
the only variable that changed, and I know
that alcohol can cause stomach irritation.
I don't have the greatest diet, being a
college student, but this hasn't much
affected me in the past. I feel like i'm
worried about this than I should be, but I
was wondering if anyone had any insight to
offer on this matter.
I don't plan on seeing a doctor about
this, as it's really not that bad (though
I won't be so foolish to continue ignoring
it if it gets worse), and it's a huge pain
in the ass for me to see a doctor, given
that i'm off at college, especially
without my parents finding out about it,
as i'm still on their healthcare
insurance.
For now, i'm eating an easier diet and
drinking lots of water and some apple
juice, and hoping this will clear up. I
also do not plan on getting that wasted
again; it's pretty safe to say I learned
my lesson.
Still, though, to assuage, or at least
inform a worrying mind, does anyone have
any input or advice?
