Stevens-Johnson syndrome? or an allergic reaction?...why are
Posted: 10-23-06 18:39pm

I've never had the best teeth, and as a child my mother refused t educate me on oral health or encourage t. However when I started having to see a dentist regularily in my early teens I realised I was going to have to do something. Ever since I've been brushing at least twice a day.
I had gingivitis and always brushed until it bled to get rid of the infection. However a few days ago I discovered this red kind of bubble on my gums.
I can't see it well, but sometimes it's solid and other times it feels like I can pop it. When i brush my teeth it bleeds quite abit. I don't know if it's my gums or the bubble though. It just wont pop, but I think part of the reason might be that I'm afraid to pop it.
I want to know what it is and what i can do it get rid of it. I am most certain it's not a sexually transmitted disease seeign as i have never been sexually active. It started the day i had this allergic reaction to, something I ate I suppose because my lip swelled up.
For the past year I've been getting hives, which soemtimes swells my lips. I read about somethig called Stevens-Johnson syndrome, which is an allergic reaction and i thought maybe that was it.
Please help me. Thanks

It is difficult to diagnose the cause of the “red bubble on your gums”, hives and “lips swelling” but I can tell you that is is probably not Stevens-Johnson-syndrome. Stevens-Johnson syndrome is very severe allergic reaction that manifests with redness, blisters, and erosions around the mouth, eyes and in the oral cavity. Hives and swelling of the lips could be due to an allergic reaction but these symptoms are far from Stevens-Johnson syndrome. You can see a dentist for examination of the gums.
