Miscarriage Without Cramping/clots? Posted: 10-24-06 16:52pm
A couple of months ago I found out I was
pregnant, by taking a pregnancy test at
the doctor's office. I found out on a
friday, and I had been spotting lightly
all weekend, then on sunday it got a bit
heavier...So I went to the er, and they
said the tests showed I was not pregnant,
and the ultrasound showed nothing, and he
said my cervix was dilated slightly, so he
was going to say I had a completed
miscarriage. The thing I don't understand
is, everyone else I have talked to who
experienced a miscarriage had horrible
cramps, and bleeding with a lot of clots,
and even "tissue" looking substance. I
had none of that. Why is that?

How far along were you? Have you had a
follow up with your ob? Further testing
of your blood levels?
There are so many variables. How many
doctor's appointments did you have? Did
you have an ultrasound prior to the
miscarriage? Did you have a d&c
afterwards?
"and he said my cervix was dilated
slightly, so he was going to say I had a
completed miscarriage"
this is all you learned?

I do not know how far along I was, because
they couldn't determine when my last
actual period was...
I had a normal period on february 25th,
then I began having light spotting from
march 17th- 27th, then it went away for 2
weeks, and came back all the way until I
found out I was pregnant, on april 21st.
(i know this was awhile ago, but I am
trying to understand why it happened the
way it did).
I did have a follow-up with my Dr. And he
said that since the 2 ultrasounds had
showed no sign of anything, and my blood
test came back with levels that had gone
down from what they were when I had my
miscarriage, that I didn't need a d&c,
or any other procedure because it had
taken care of itself.
I did not have an ultrasound prior to the
miscarriage, because I only found out I
was pregnant on the 21st, and I had a
miscarriage on the 23rd.

You found out you were pregnant on april
21 and miscarried on april 23rd? It
sounds like it wasn't a viable pregnancy
from the start. Or perhaps a chemical
pregnancy.
Sometimes there is never a 'reason' for
miscarriage that you'll ever know.
Something can be wrong at a cellular level
and cause things not to progress. The
reason you did not have any intense
cramping or blood clots was probably due
to not being very far along. If you'd
just found out, you were only about 2
weeks pregnant.
Good luck in the future.
