I went to the doctor's this morning and he said that my baby is big for her dates. He scheduled an ultrasound in 2 weeks. This will be my 4th one! Question is it normal to have an ultrasound so late? Does this mean i'm going to be induced early? Someone told me that they only give ultrasounds late if they think that you're going to need induced... This sounded suspicious to me... Is it true? Do you think i'm going to get induced? He said the baby's head is engaged and i'll go for my ultrasound in 2 weeks at 37 weeks. I don't want to be induced... Do you think this means that i'm going to be? Confused

i had an ultrasound 1 day before I went into labor. Ultrasounds are notoriously wrong. The told me I was measuring big, then they told me that I wasn't. After the ultrasound I had 1 day before labor the told me that my baby wouldn't be any more that 6 or 6.5 lbs. Guess what? He was born at 9 lbs 11 oz... Based on my own personal experiences I don't think that they'll induce, they usually induce as a last possible option.

Well, I don't know. If they think she's huge, they might take her early, but they might be wrong about her size too!

I was induced, though, and it honestly wasn't that bad for me. It took forever, but the contractions weren't horrible until I was close to delivery.

I don't think they'll necessarily induce you.. I'm going in for my fifth scan in 2 weeks, and i'll probably have another one after that, too, because my baby is measuring small and they want to keep an eye on her. They like to do scans late on just to make sure the baby is growing properly, and when they guess the weight they can be wrong. I doubt they'd induce you unless there was a serious reason to.

Good. I want to go natural. I just hear everyone I know say ignorant things b/c she's measuring big. They keep telling me i'm having twins and I know i'm not b/c this will be my fourth ultrasound and there had always been only one baby and one hb. At my last ultrasound, they said that her legs were measuring 2 weeks ahead and everything else in measuring at least 8 days ahead... It's been like that at every ultrasound... She's never measured behind or on time. I was originally supposed to be due on dec 6, but then they said nov 28. At my last appt 2 weeks ago, my fundal height was 13 1/2 inches from the pelvis, today it was 15 1/4 inches, and the doctor said that it should have risen 1/2 inch for every 8 ounces she gained... I really desperately don't want to be induced, but my doc is known for inducing labor. Crying or Very sad the other doctor in the practice I saw a couple of times and she doesn't induce, but my usual doc induces alot. And i'm afraid that since I have a history of epilepsy as well, that he's going to want to induce.... Anyone have epilepsy? Do you know if they induce for that? Sad if he suggests induction, can I say no? Crying or Very sad

Your doctor can't force you. He can *strongly* *recommend*, but he can't strap you down and stick a needle in you. It's against the law.

You can absolutely refuse.

But try to weigh the pros and the cons before you decide. If your doctor thinks it's too risky for you to go into labor on your own, maybe you should hear him out before making your decision.

No harm in listening! Wink

Yeah, no harm in listening... I just know he's going to say it's b/c of the epilepsy, but I think it's ridiculous b/c I haven't had a seizure in 4 years... What are the pros and cons? I only ever hear the bad things b/c my lamaze instructor is really against inductions and she always is bad mouthing them saying "medical interventions are not necessary" and "you should be able to be up and moving around. You're not sick! Labor and delivery are not a reason to be tied to a bed"...

does she have kids? If she does maybe her deliveries were all easy? I wanted to go natural too but I simply could not handle it. She shouldn't down it, she should be completely open to everything. A birth is only a good one if it's one that you're comfortable with.

I refused an induction, an .I.V, and an epidural. I refused all medical intervention, basically. But I don't have .Epilepsy, ya know?

Even though you haven't had a seizure in 4 years, labor could *easily* trigger them!!

Your doctor is a doctor for a reason. He's not out to hurt you, he just wants the best for not only you, but your baby. And your baby is the most important.

Say you *were* to refuse what the doctor offers and have a seizure during labor? Then what? You baby's life would then be a risk.

I would do some research on it and not be tempted by your lamas teacher to go agains your doctors wishes.

There are millions of women out there that struggle to have the birth plan they always dreamed of. Sometimes, you just have to play the hands that's dealt to you.

Especially if it means sacrificing pride for the health of your baba!!

Well, here are a few pro's off the top of my head:

~if your baby really *is* big, it's probably better to get her out sooner than later, especially if you're going the vaginal route. But that's iffy, since ultrasounds can be deceiving.

~you don't have to play the "is this it?" game every time you feel funny.

~not every induction is a horror story! I thoroughly enjoyed mine! I spent the whole first day watching .Cops on the awesome cable tv in my room. (they had, like, 200-something channels!)

~you won't have to worry about going over your due date. That's complete hell. Every day some fool calls to see if you've gone into labor yet, like they're reminding you that you haven't had your baby yet. Like you'd be the last to know or something!

~i don't know about your epilepsy, but it's possible they want to keep a close eye on you throughout your entire labor. If, .God forbid, anything *were* to suddenly happen as a result of labor/contractions, at least you'd already be in a hospital with trained professionals right at hand.

But if you're dead set against induction, let your doctor know that! Don't let him bully you into one unless he really thinks it's the only way you'll have a safe delivery. It might be easier for *him* if you're induced, but that's not your problem!

My baby's life wouldn't be at risk, I don't have grand mal seizures. I have petit mal. That means that I don't have convulsions and the seizure is secluded to one area of my body (my brain) what happens is, I don't lose consciousness or anything, I just lose the ability to communicate. I get a sharp pain in my temples and everything goes black for a minute and I can hear everything, but I can't talk to them. The doctor said that the worse would be if I have seizure, then he would have to do a c-section. Is an induction better than a c-section? And is it possible that he is wrong about her size? What if he induces me and she's small. Her dates are ahead, but maybe they are wrong... What would happen?

My doctor didn't do crap for me anyway. The nurses were there throughout my entire labor, half of my pushing, and all of my recovery. The doctor came in, caught the baby, stitched me up, and walked out.

Well, I mean its kinda understandable.. Since they know your history personally, and how u react to this and that and such.. They just want to be there because after 9 months of one on one care, they feel sorta... I dunno.. I guess personally obligated to make sure everything goes ok.

An induction is waaay better than a c-section!!!!

You can have a vaginal delivery with induction(unless there's an emergency)

c-section, there's not questions, you're being cut open.

Induction is way better than a c-section. The only thing different between an induction and going into labor naturally is they start your labor instead of you starting on your own. But you're confined pretty much to your bed and immediately around it since you're hooked up to an iv. Natural labor, you can walk around, get in the tub, squat, etc.

But if you get an epi, you're tied to the bed anyway.

C-section is major abdominal surgery.

I wanted to name my baby after my epi guy.

That stuff is awesome.

One bee sting, and you don't feel the rest. Just don't look at the needle and you're fine.

Then again, I was leaning against my husband while the guy was putting the big needle in, and I saw .Aaron's face go like Shocked

...That doesn't help much. Rolling Eyes

don't they give epi's for c-sections?

I wanted to go med free. I don't want to have an epidural. The ldrp rooms in my hospital are wonderful. They have a jauzzi and I was hoping on being able to use it. Well, I guess labor and delivery are unpredictable... And I can't have things go exactly as I plan... If the doc says induction, then i'll follow his advice... But, what will happen if they are wrong about her size? And she's not big? What if they induce me and she's small? Then what? Will everything be ok? I'm nervous... It's getting so close to the end... Did any of you fell this way? Were you scared of the unknown?
