I Lost All My Old Friends Since I Do Weed All the Time... Posted: 10-26-06 16:43pm
I can safely say i'm addicted, but I don't
know how to get off. So far, nothings
happened in my life, I get good grades in
school and my new friends who introduced
me to weed are pretty fun people too...
My old friends just said it's going to
ruin my life. Should I stop or no? I do
it every 2 weeks.

Bujno, first, there is no physical
addiction to reefer, but you and I both
know that there can be a fairly powerful
physiological one.
Should I stop or no? Sure you should
stop. But how? It is doing something for
you or you wouldn’t keep doing it at the
cost of your old friends. The first
question you might want to ask yourself is
what does this drug do for you?
Reefer never made me more social, or at
ease with people, just the opposite, it
made me kinda paranoid. Yet when I had a
bag stashed away, I thought about when I
could spark one up all the time.
Yet it was what I wanted, and I went back
to it over and over again. If you are
like me. It is a tough habit to break my
friend, but it can be done.
Try telling yourself, I am not going to
get buzzed just for today, and then
tomorrow, make the same deal with yourself
all over again.
And start hanging out with your old buds
again, put some space between you and
your stoner buddies for a while.

Great points richard!! Pot isn't
physically addictive. Besides if you
only do it every 2 weeks it isn't
something you can't live without.
What do you do the days you don't smoke
it?
Maybe you could find a different set of
friends, or go back to the friends that
don't toke up. Could you join a group at
school, find a hobby that you enjoy, or
just be strong and refrain from doing it.
I smoked weed all through school and
graduated from college with honors, but
that doesn't mean that it was good for me.
I probably could have done even better
if I wasn't wacked out of it all the
time.
The older you get the more you will want
to smoke. It makes people isolative. I
have a friend who continues to puff every
day and to get her out of the house to do
a social activity is nearly impossible.
She wants to and will even agree to meet
us out and about, but before she goes
anyplace she needs to smoke a fattie.
Then she loses interest in doing anything
besides sitting in front of the tv with a
big glass of pepsi and a box of twinkies.
Sounds fun doesn't it?

Bujno, smoking weed is you're decision,
and if you're gonna choose to smoke up,
you're gonna do it.
You're friends can't predict the future,
and smoking weed will not ruin you're
life, if you're responsible about smoking
weed. Take it from me, i've been smoking
weed for about 3 years now, and my life
isn't messed up. If you're friends don't
understand, then that's just them.
It doesn't sound like you do it that much
compaired to some others. My boyfriends
dad smokes a joint every morning afternoon
and night.
and i usually smoke a bowl like everyday
too.
Like i said, its your choice and if they
can't understand, then it sounds like you
should stick with the new friends you
made.
good luck on your decision.

Buddy, don't buy into this reefer madness
hysteria. I've done thorough amounts of
biological research and THC has been
consistantly shown to have zero
neurotoxicity. It's physical toxicity is
lower than almost all (if not all period)
over the counter drugs.
The only brain cells it destoys are glioma
cells, which act as a fatty packing around
the brain and serve no function in
cognition or other functions. Glioma cells
are also the most prone to turning
cancerous, and THC has been shown to
actually act neuro-protectively against
physical trauma and mutagenic carcinogens.
The moral of the story:
Don't believe anything about weed from pro
or anti-cannabis groups!

Interesting stuff Mike. This is the first
I have heard of glioma cells, fascinating!
I’m going to look into it further,
thanks.
I never thought reefer was in the same
class as speed, crack or smack, not even
close. In fact, when I smoked, it almost
always put me in a reflective mood and I
thought about questions of balance often.
That, I believe, is a good thing.
But back to the larger point of “should
I stop?” that bujno asked. And that
question begs the larger question of why
do I smoke pot in the first place?
All mind altering substances have one
thing in common, and that is they alter
our outlook, and they alter it fast.
(except acid, that takes about an hour)
Again, just my opinion, but we alter our
chemistry with drugs or alcohol for the
simple reason that we are not entirely
happy with our outlook without it in our
system. We don’t like what I like to
call naked content, this world just as it
is.
Reefer is about the most benign of the
choices we can make, but why do we find
ourselves in a position where we feel we
need to make such choices in the first
place?

Excellent question, Richard....Why DO some
find themselves in a position where they
need to alter their perception of the
world?

I never like the way weed made me feel.
But, hey if I were young again, it sure
beats getting drunk and violent or killing
someone while DUI.
To me, using recreational drugs is just a
hiding place for an underlying issue.

Weed is a problem if it's interfering with
your life.
Since you've lost friends, and admit you
are addicted, I don't see how that weed is
not interfering with your life.
Do not minimize this issue. If it's
negatively effecting your life, you need
to figure out why you ignore it and keep
doing it.

Empty, that question of why do we feel we
need a buzz to be happy is at the heart of
the recovery program I am involved with.
AA.
And I suppose it is a little different for
each of us, but the one emotion I think we
all share is fear. Fear of not getting
something we want, or fear of losing
something we already have.
Our fears runs through all areas of our
lives, but mostly we don’t think so. And
the drugs, etc. we chose numb those
un-named fears.

Is marijuana addictive?
No one would argue that marijuana is as
addictive as alcohol or cocaine. However,
it's wrong to say that it is not at all
addictive. More and more studies are
finding that marijuana has addictive
properties. Both animal and human studies
show physical and psychological withdrawal
symptoms from marijuana, including
irritability, restlessness, insomnia,
nausea and intense dreams. Tolerance to
marijuana also builds up rapidly. Heavy
users need 8 times higher doses to get the
same effects as infrequent users.
For a small percentage of people who use
it, marijuana can be highly addictive. It
is estimated that 10% to 14% of users will
become heavily dependent. More than
120,000 people in the US seek treatment
for marijuana addiction every year.
Because the consequences of marijuana use
can be subtle and insidious, it is more
difficult to recognize signs of addiction.
Cultural and societal beliefs that
marijuana cannot be addictive make it less
likely for people to seek help or to get
support for quitting.
How do I recognize a problem with
marijuana?
Some warning signs are:
* More frequent use
* Needing more and more to get the
same effect
* Spending time thinking about using
marijuana
* Spending more money than you have on
it
* Missing class or failing to finish
assignments because of marijuana
* Making new friends who do it and
neglecting old friends who don't
* Finding it's hard to be happy
without it
Because THC is fat soluble and remains in
the body for up to 3 weeks, it's important
to remember that withdrawal symptoms might
not be felt immediately

for me marijuana is like a
anti-depressant, but if you take too much
of it it can cause depression.
i've been smoking marijuana for some time
now that i sometimes get depressed when i
dont get it. but can still go through a
day without it, just have to keep myself
busy.
in the end smoking marijuana is your
decision, some people are more understand
towards it than others because of their
background, to others smoking is against
what they've been taught, but everyone's
different and some choose to learn things
for themselves
