Q: Menometrorrhagia: irregular mentrual period with heavy bleed
asked by: DoctorQuestion on October 29th, 2006
I have irregular periods, I spot in between my periods, and for the past 4 months I have has an increase in menstrual flow between the dates of te 19th and the 20th of each month. So I am assuming that the should be an expected time of muy periopds to begin from those dates. Anyhow, my last period which last abt 4 days was on September 19,2006 and ended on 9/22/2006. I then started spotting again on 9/25-27,2006, stopped. Then on 10/1-2/2006,stopped, started 10/11-13/2006 stopped again. And of course between those times I have had unprotected sex, we are trying to have another child. Now there has been no spotting, NOTHING. I have expected to have my cycle by the 19th an dno later than the 21st. Still NOTHING. I took a pregnacy test on the 20th and then on the 26th and both test were neg. Now my breasts are sore, and all last month form the beginning I have been extremly tired and thirsty, I have have lower back aches and cramps. WHAT DO YOU THINK IS GOING ON, I'M SO CONFUSED!!!!!!

According to the negative pregnancy tests, it seems likely that you are not pregnant. In addition, you report irregular vaginal bleeding. In fact, it is difficult to distinguish between menstruation and spotting for women with irregular periods. This condition is called menometrorrhagia. It can be due to disturbances among the sex-hormones (functional bleeding) or can be attribute to some types of organic disorders of the genital organs (infections, tumors, endometriosis etc.). You have to visit a gynecologist for an examination, diagnosis, and treatment plan.
