Please Help! Perirectal Perianal Cyst Or Abscess? Posted: 10-30-06 13:37pm
Does anyone know anything about these?
Please help
i have a large hard lump near my anus. It
is sore (mostly to the touch) and tender.
It kind of looks like a pimple from the
outside but if you push on it you can feel
a rather large lump, but I have not had
any drainage. My worst fear is cancer. I
have been to the emergency room but the
doctor said he didnt know what it could
be, gave me antibiotics and referred me to
a surgeon. The antibiotics dont seem to
be helping and the appointment with the
surgeon isn't until the end of november.
If you have had any experience with
anything like this, please let me know
what your symptoms and everything was
like. Thank you!

Hi there. Yes, I have experienced the
same thing you are describing in your
post. Mine occurred 2 years ago, started
as a tender swollen lump near my anus
(left side) and I thought it was due to
hemroids or something. Then one day the
pain got really bad, I applied a hot towel
to the area and the pain suddenly went
away, but when I turned on the light I
noticed blood, pus, and foul smell on the
towel. I consulted with my physician and
it was an "anal abscess." he put me on a
round of antibiotics, and everything went
away. Yesterday, I noticed the same
thing in the same area, and I believe its
the same thing cuz I did notice some pus
and blood. I am going to consult with a
physician tomorrow cuz it recurred and
could be an "anal fistula" both these
things are not harmful, a fistula is when
a tunnel is formed from the previous
abscess to the anal canal, this can
reinfect and usually required a minor
surgery. I dont believe I have a fistula
just a recurred abscess cuz I home-treated
the discharge on the previous abscess
(popped on its own) so perhaps all the
contents did not empty, and it got
reinfected. In short, whatever you have
is not harmful, its rather common so just
see a Dr. And you should be fine. Looks
that you posted on 10/30, so you have
prolly healed by now. Do follow-up, and
let me know what happened. I am going to
a family Dr. Tomm. But I am sure he'll
give me antibiotics, but I do want to see
a specialist.

My son was 4 weeks old (15 years ago) when
he had a perirectal abscess.
He was rushed to the hospital where they
lanced and drained the abscess. I can't
imagine the pain you must be going thru.
I remember him being in pain. Every
diaper change he had to sit in the tub.
Please go for a second opinion and not let
it go. Take care, linda44
