Lupus In An * Year Old Boy Posted: 01-29-04 10:28am
Please help me. My grandson that just
turned 8 may have some form of lupus. He
takes allergy medication every day. He
went for his yearly exam and they found
protein in his urin. They did blood work
and then told his parents that the doctor
was afraid he had lupus. No other
conplaints. I'm not sure what lupus is.
Can anyone inform me? Thank you

Patricia:
lupus is an autoimmue disease. While it
is usually found in women (approximately
90%), it *is* found in men and children.
Has your grandson been seen by a
rheumatologist? What did his current
doctors suggest?

Is he getting injections for his
allergies? I did and I think I got lupus
because of it. I had bad allergies. If
he is, discontinue the treatment right
away! Remember that allergies are caused
by an over reaction by the immune system.
See a specialist asap. If the ana titer
is 1:80 or higher then there is something
going on. Also, positive anti-dna is a
classic sign of lupus. There is an entire
slew of tests they will do. If the ana is
negative then he probably doesnt have
lupus.
