My throat has been hurting for years. It
hurts on and off within the day.
Especially when I start to get tired. I
got my tonsils out a year ago. My throat
still hurts. I had mono about 2 years ago
as well. When I have pain, I look in my
throat and it is all red in front of the
uvula, not on it but on the gums infront
of it. The sore throat sometimes only
lasts about 10 minutes - hours. I used to
occasionally see one or two white things
in the back of my throat, almost like a
whitehead. When I take a hot shower the
pain goes away. My throat tends to hurt
more often in the winter season than the
summer. (it rarely hurts in the summer)..I
have seen numerous doctors for this as
well as allergists. Now my eye is starting
to puff (bag)underneath my eye in the
mornings. It goes away a little as the day
goes on. I have also just been told I have
something going on with my thyroid as
well. Any Ideas??

A sore throat that lasts for only 10
minutes or 1 hour can’t be due to
inflammation or a tumor. Since many
doctors found nothing wrong with your
throat, it seems that your “sore
throat” may be a manifestation of a
somatoform disorder. Somatoform disorder
is a kind of neurotic disorder wherein
psycho-emotional difficulties are
transformed into symptoms similar to those
found in the real organic diseases. You
can check your thyroid gland, if you want
(looking for levels of thyroxin and FSH).
You may also visit an ophthalmologist to
check your “puffy” eye.
