Sciatic Nerve and Pain Management Posted: 11-02-06 20:48pm
I have had a stiffining pain in my lower
back for about 2 months now which affects
my sciatic nerve; some days are better
then others. I went to the doctors & was
perscribed 800mg ibprofin & my back still
hurts. I am done with the meds & made
another appointment to go back next week
but with no insurance I may have to get
x-rays. Is there another (more effective)
pain medication that can help me?
Thank you in advance!

It is not possible to treat an unknown
condition! An X-ray is necessary to first
identify what might be causing the pain
you are experiencing. Spondylosis is one
possibility, for example. If X-ray imaging
assumes a discus hernia, an MRI of the
lumbar vertebral column will be also
requested. Ibuprofen and other painkillers
(ketoprofen, diclofenak, codeineā¦) may
relieve the pain temporarily. You can go
to your doctor and follow her/his
instructions.
