Hi , I am new on this forum and thought I
would share with some of you what happened
to me. I went in for what was suppose to
be a "piece of cake hysterectomy" which
was the doctors exact words as he walked
away from my post op bed to get all
scrubbed up. Anyways it ended up being a
nightmare. A week before my surgery I had
a pelvic exam done along with a pap smear
to make sure everything was good.
According to my doctor everything was good
there were no signs of anything abnormal.
I wasn't really worried about it I just
wanted it to be over so I could have a
normal pain free life. Anyways, a hour
surgery ended up being 3 hours and 15
minutes. When they wheeled me into
surgery my nightmare begins. I started
hemoraging as soon as he got close to the
cervix ( which had severe endo) and my
uterus was 4 to 5 times the size it was
suppose to be and was full of endo. He
said all he was doing was clamping off
blood vessels. When I read some of my
pathology report it stated I had a cysts
that was 191 grams which was almost 2
pounds and it was on the funuds of the
uterus. Can a doctor miss that big of a
cyst? Also they had to call in a
urologist to cut a hole in my bladder to
see if it wasn't damaged, after that was
done they ended up putting a stent in one
of my ureters to make sure it didn't
colapse. I have to have a catheder for
the next three weeks and after that they
will take an x-ray and see if they can
take the stent out. I use to love my
doctor, but I have changed about him. I
also had to have a j tube put in my
abdomin to drain the blood, the first
night it was 400 cc's and was like that
for about 3 days finally the other day I
got it out, which hurt!! Know I am in
tears all the time over this. I can't
understand why he wasn't able to feel my
uterus or atleast the size of my cyst.
Also, I had sent over 10 of my friends to
him and really respected him. My family
is just glad I am stil here, but when I
think of all that went wrong, I cry and
am so thankful I wasn't looking down on
myself and talking to god and him telling
me what had happened. Teary eyed hot
missy

Sorry to hear about your problems! Having
just gone through this with my wife, your
story interested me. We also had to
remove cysts, only hers were multiple.
She went trhough a post op depression( in
english, she was scared!). It may or may
not help you to know, she now considers it
the best thing to ever happen to her. Her
pain is gone, she is losing weight, and
her sex drive has tripled. E-mail me
anytime to discuss or if ya need a
shoulder

Nebbyd, this was a very unusual
situtation. Don't be scared. Please
make sure you have a ultrasound before
your surgery. I put post op instead of
pre-op(before surgery) so I am stil in
the recovery part. I had my surgery 2
weeks ago. I am for hysterectomies,
because there are so many benefits for
having it. I just never imagined I had an
enlarged uterus, after all he delivered 2
of my babies so I would think he would
know if mine was that large. No
ultrasound was done, because he didn't
feel it was necessary, if he would have
the people in the operating room would
have been on their toes!! They would
have also been more prepared. Let me know
where your from and I willl tell ya if
you are in my state. Take care teary

Hot missy, I am in georgia. I thank you
for your honesty. I have been viewing
the questions and comments and it has
helped some what. One thing I totally
realize....Everyone is different and has
different experiences with their surgery
experiences. I believe that I am going
to have the partial hysterectomy. I have
two beautiful healthy boys, ages 10 and 7.
I was kinda holding out for a little
girl... I really need to make a decision
for health reasons. I hope to chat with
you again.

Hi Misti Posted: 02-03-04 08:14am
I am in florida and my name is kay, I had
a total hysterectomy 3 months ago, which
was november 2003, my doctor told me the
same, that all was gonna be okay,, well,
just the oppisite, I am 41 and thought I
had the knowledge of seeing threw people
who would hurt you, my dr was a nightmare,
totally different...I starting hemoraging
after he either forgot to completly take
my right ovary out, or was trying to kill
me. After surjury he came to my bed
because I was begging for pain relief, he
had given me nothingfor pain ( no pump)
nada! I watched my stomach grow with fear
because I could not breathe, for my
stomach was filling with blood, I had some
idea, I was fading in and out passing
out..The nurses watched in fear and was
telling my husband to make sure he took me
to another hospital , for they were gonna
release me soon with my blood count was 4
and my crits: 16.... I was dieing, I tolf
my husband to call my oldest daughter that
was out of town and tell her I loved her,
thats when the dr came in ,, told me to go
home and take some ibuprofrin and some
iron pills,, I said yeah ok,, my husband
had our truck pulled up to the door and
the nurse said to me & him:: get her
to shands in gainsville fla.. Fast! As
he drove I said, honey I will lie down at
home, he said kay,, you are going to
shands now! I said okay, I had no
strength...We drove 20 miles or so, and
the dr there saw the colour of my face
which was a bluish grey, and they called
in dr stewart obgyn. He told me that my
tummy was full of blood, then he packed my
vagina, and sent me to icu, for several
hours while they gave me enough blood, so
that I could handle surjury okay.. I had
2 pints in the er.. @ more during a 6
hour surjury.... I have had difficulties
ever sense, my bladder is not the same, my
bowels are not the same, my mood is within
my pain on the inside, and outside due to
the fact, I cant trust doctors too well.
I pray alot, I am asking you to do the
same, pray misty,, we are the world.
Women rule, without us women,, men could
not make it, I watched the nurses at the
hospital, the Dr.S are nothing without
them. Lol.I will light a candle for you
misty and pray for you and hope that your
body becomes yours again... You take care
and write me anytime,, p.S. Where are you
from? Talk with you soon.. Bye bye..

Hot Missy Back From the Hospital For the Second T!!!!!!!!!!! Posted: 02-05-04 01:17am
Well, I just got back from being in the
hospital(i went to another hospital) for
another 5 days. I have a new gynecologist
and a new urologist, who isn't happy with
the doctor that did my hysterectomy. I
had to have 2 pints of blood and I also
had a bad infection in my pelvis area. I
also have a hematoma, an abcess and a cyst
near my bladder. The new hospital I went
to the er doctor felt so sorry for me,
because I was so bloaded up and had so
much adema. The infection is probabaly
from having to wait an hour on the
operating table for the urologist to get
there. My old doctor has lied to my
family( thank god I had alot of my family
there during the surgery) and I am so
thankful I am stil here. My new urologist
is going to take me to surgery in a few
weeks and will make sure that the stent
they put in is working and that everything
is fine in there, before he takes the
stent out. I have cried everyday from
this whole ordeal, and have become closer
to the lord. I am going to college to
become an rn and have learned alot of
things while I was in the hospital. One
big thing is compassion for patients(which
I have always had anyway) thats why I
wanted to become a nurse in the first
place. Lastly, before anyone gets a
hysterectomy make sure that you check your
doctor out with the board of medical
examiners in your state the hospital has
reputable standings with the state. Also,
make sure he does an ultra- sound of your
pelvis area and is very through-all.
Sincerely, hot missy thats on the road to
recovery!!! Thank the lord!!

Hysterectomy Posted: 02-11-04 09:06am
I too have had a hysterectomy---but I have
a different outcome !!--mine was total
& is the best & smartest thing I
have ever done--no complications--no more
bleeding or pelvic pain. I am on a low
dose of estrogen.--i have no more mood
swings--actually, I feel better than I
have in years !!!!!
