Missed Period But Took All Pills Posted: 11-03-06 13:24pm
Hello!
I posted this question the other day but I
didn't get any replies. I thought maybe
because I had out it as a "dr question" so
I thought i'd try again with a regular
post.
So anyway...I have been taking a
monophasic brand of bc for about a year
now. I am very careful to take all the
active pills at about the same time
everyday (maybe a couple of hours late in
the weekends).
I have not been sick at all during this
cycle and am not on any other medication,
rx or otherwise, that would interact. I
have read the pamphlet thoroughly and I
know that some women have very light
periods from time to time while taling
this form of bc. I have even had some
months when there is only one instance of
spotting for the whole period and that's
all.
But what about no period at all? Not
even one spot. Not anything. No
cramps, no nothing.
This is happening to me right now. Today
is friday of the incative pills and I have
no period yet. I took a first response
home pregnancy test yesterday morning and
it came up negative, but should I still be
concerned?
Thank you for any replies!

You don't say how old you are or what
brand you are taking but with the newer
b/c pills it is common to have very light
or absent periods.
In fact when you are on b/c you don't
actually have a period but you have a
withdrawl bleed from stopping taking the
b/c for 7 days.
If you have had a negative pregnancy test
(b/c does not affect pregnancy tests as
they test for hcg not estrogen or
progesterone) and you have been dedicated
in taking your b/c then it is unlikely
that you have pregnancy to be concerned
about.
However, remember the pill is only 98-99%
effective when taken 100% correctly so it
is possible. But with a neg test it is
very very unlikely.
If you are concerned or have any other
symptoms please do make an appt with your
doctor or gynae to discuss things.
